BEA'S BOOK NOOK "I can't imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once." C. S. Lewis “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” ― Oscar Wilde

A new month and a new year, hard to believe. I spent New Year's Eve night eating Chinese with a friend and then we watched all 5 episodes of "The Librarians" at her place. She has cable and I don't so it was a treat for me. Despite the differences from the movie I enjoyed the episodes. I had a quiet week overall, doing some editing and some database work and of course reading. How was your week?

I had a great Christmas, how was yours? We had a houseful of relatives. My dad's overall health is poor and the Alzheimer's keeps stealing away parts of him but I'm also seeing some different parts of him. Let's just say he's lost some of his social inhibitions :P Most of the time he knew who I was but when he would call me by the wrong name, I just went with it. I didn't see any need to correct or further confuse him. One sibling couldn't make it but the rest were there. I also got to see my BIL for the first time since his health crisis last year. While he's still not fully recovered, he's come a long way and looked and sounded great. I gave him some of my books and we discussed authors.

2 more days and I'll be in Virgina, with my parents and siblings. I fly out way too early Tuesday morning and by noon I'll be at their house and settled in. I have posts planned for every day this week but I'm not taking my laptop so I won't be visiting or commenting much (though I will have my tablet and smartphone). I'll be back home next weekend though I'm not sure if I'll get a Sunday post up.

For everyone celebrating Hannukah, I wish a you a happy, joyous Hannukah and for everyone celebrating Christmas, have a merry and wondrous holiday. Best wishes for a wonderful week to everyone!

Another week full of editing, teaching, and doing database work. No Habitat for Humanity this week, no time. I still have Christmas presents to wrap, cards to write, and shopping to do. I need more time before Christmas. I'm flying down to see my parents and all of the sibs and their spouses will be there. I'm looking forward to seeing them but I'm going to be all socialized out by the time I get home. DO you have any holiday plans this month?

I had a busy, busy week with editing, beta reading, and promoting several of my author clients plus the day job. I got behind when I developed a multi-day stomach and intestinal bug, oh joy. The week ended on a high note with two Christmas parties on Saturday. In the afternoon, I went to author Penny Watson's holiday bash just outside of Boston. I got to meet her, Laura K. Curtis, and a bunch of new to me authors. In the evening my friend Elizabeth had her annual holiday get together. I am all partied out, lol. I iz old. :P Today, I have a ton of work to do for my other part-time job with BTSemag, and some reviews to write for the Nook.

We had Thanksgiving last week here in the US. I had a pleasant, quiet day at home with the critters. We ate turkey (well, Thing Two didn't), I stayed in my jammies, and I didn't do any blog work or client work. The rest of the week I was busy with the blog, editing, helping my authors, the day job, and volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. Once my internet was up and running again I had a lot of catching up to do. I chatted with my dad on Thanksgiving and it was...interesting. With his Alzheimers, it can be like talking with a toddler. It used to bother me, now I just go with it. He knew who I was and he sounded content, that was good enough.

Oy, the week started well. On Monday I had my two post surgical check up for the lung surgery I had done two summers ago. My lung capacity showed improvement and I've had fewer asthma exacerbations and they've been milder. The doctor was quite excited and happy. I've been happy with the results and the improvements. Now if only there were a cure for asthma!

Then Tuesday night after I went to bed, my modem died. I've had no internet access at home since then. Eeep. I'm typing this up from the library Saturday afternoon. I expect I'll be here until closing time at 5, catching up on blog stuff, client work, and personal online matters. According to the UPS site, my modem will arrive late Monday afternoon. So, if all goes well when I install the new device, I should be back online some time Monday night. I went to a local coffee shop chain Thursday between jobs to take advantage of their free wi-fi but their internet security declared the blog to be a pornography site and I couldn't access it. :D Ah well, I had access to my email and most other sites that I needed. I've also gotten a LOT of reading done without the net to distract me. :D

I had only a few early mornings at school, thank goodness. I was actually able to sleep late several days. I was busy with the Ho Ho Ho Read-A-Thon and setting up a blog tour for a new paranormal romance, Wolves' Bane by Angela Addams. There are still spots open if you want to sign up. Claude was very snuggly last week; he has really settled in here. I got a new tank for my betta fish, complete with a heater. Apparently, I was keeping my bedroom too cold for his liking. Now he's a got a roomy tank and heated water and he's much happier.

Last week kicked my butt. I had to be at work early every day last week; and by early, I mean I had to leave by 6:30AM to be there for 8AM; A couple days were 8:30 so I could leave around 7:15. Blargh. Add in some new author clients and 4 new challenges for the month of November and I am so tired and so behind. Sigh.

I worked four days last week and it felt strange after being out of work for several months. :D It was a less eventful week, no more outbreaks of lice, but the quiet was nice. It's a smaller school than my old one, not quite half the size, so learning who all of the kids and staff are isn't too hard. So far, things are going well. :) It was a quiet week overall, just one shift at Habitat and life on the home front was quiet. Now, books....books were not quiet; they got a little crazy last week. :D

I did several volunteer stints at the office for my local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. They just moved to the town next to me so now instead of driving 45 minutes (in light traffic) to help, it's just under 20 minutes to get there. :) They're still unpacking from the move so I unpacked, sorted, organized and pruned their office supplies. There were some supplies that they had excessive quantities of so depending on their condition (and with the director's blessings), they were thrown out, recycled, or set aside for the Habitat ReStore for resale. I also started at the new subbing job, covering a teacher on vacation. Annnnd on my very first day, we sent my co-teacher and one child home with lice in their hair. Another teacher was put in with me and while she undertook the bagging of all fabric items and cleaning the room, I had the kids. Who did really well considering it was my first day.

I had orientation for my new job last week. Now I'm in a holding pattern while I wait for some medical records, required by the state, from my doctor. I can't start in the classroom until I have that documentation, so frustrating. I did have another great week with books and a friend and I are hitting up the library used book sale this afternoon. A new editing project came in so that's my focus right now. Weather-wise, we had so much rain that it felt like March and not October.

Life is feast or famine sometimes. Last week I received a job offer, accepted it, and then 24 hours later I got a second job offer. Oy. The first one was for part-time and the second was full-time. Both were good options but I need the full-time pay and benefits. It sure feels good to be wanted! To celebrate being employed, I bought books, lol. Actually, I went a little nuts with books all around - buying, pre-ordering, and also requesting review copies.
