2023 Reading Challenges

Source: PNGtree

Happy New Year! For those of you using the Gregorian calendar, welcome to the start of another year. I am lucky enough to have a four day weekend, and I'm getting some reading done. I've also decided to try reading challenges again. I took a break for a few years and I'm ready to try again. I picked four, all repeats except for the Thrifty Thursday. That's been a meme for several years and is now a challenge too. Click on the each challenge's name to go the sign up post, and get more information.

1) Library Love  I use my library a lot, both personally and professionally. I actually did this challenge in 2022 and ended up reading over 100, including books for my classroom. This year, I'm aiming for Library Card on Fire: Read 60+ books.

2) Thrifty Thursday Between sales and author newsletters, I get a lot of freebies every month. Which, more books + no money = AWESOME. But...they tend to languish on my Kindle. So I'm aiming to read and review one a month, more if I can manage it.

3) Mount TBR I'm sure it's no surprise that I have a large pile, virtual and physical, of unread books. I'm going for level 2, Mount Blanc: Read 24 books from your TBR pile/s. Books owned, requested, or ordered before today, January 1st, 2023, count. Also, rereads count, yay! But ideally, they'll be books I haven't read yet.

And finally the, Goodreads challenge. I do this one every year. Last year's goal was 250 and I almost doubled that. Note: I count all books I read in the classroom, and count rereads. Cuz toddlers love repetition. If they only want to listen to a book once, they don't like the book. This year's goal is 300.

Are you doing any reading challenges this year? Tell me about them! And, good luck and have fun reading.

2018 Reading Challenges

This year, 2017, I only did 2 challenges, the Goodreads reading challenge and the Library Love Challenge. I had such a rough year in 2016 that I cut way back for this year. Now, though, I'm ready to take on more. So for 2018, I'm doing not only the Goodreads and Library Love challenges but also the Blogger Shame challenge and the Backlist Reader challenge.

COYER Blackout Sign Up

I'm cutting back on challenges this year, since I did so poorly last year with them. I'm doing the Goodreads Reading challenge; I'm co-hosting the Library Love Challenge with Angela from Angel's Guilty Pleasures; and now I'm joining in the newest COYER challenge. It actually started a few weeks ago but I just now decided to join. I think that this year I will do more short-term challenges and fewer of the year long challenges. They just work better for me.

http://coyerchallenge.com/2016/11/17/coyer-blackout-sign-ups/

COYER Blackout will run from December 17, 2016 – March 3, 2017. The linky will remain open one extra day so we can get our reviews in, but they need to be posted by the end of the day March 3rd. There will be winners of (3) $10 gift cards to Amazon or Barnes and Noble on March 4th.

This time COYER is going to be a 12 week Blackout, where you have to dedicate yourself to reading the books you've acquired for less than $1.00. No problem for me since the majority of my ebooks these days are freebies from Amazon or InstaFreebies or are review copies. Library books and borrowed books don't count this time around.

For all the details, or to sign up, go here - http://coyerchallenge.com/2016/11/17/coyer-blackout-sign-ups/

Sign Up ~ 2017 Library Love Challenge

I LOVE the Library, it's my second home, and I love the Library Challenges that have been hosted in the past by the Book Dragon’s Lair (I Love Libraries), which I took over in 2016, but did a miserable job of hosting. Then in 2015 and past years there was Snagged @ The Library Reading Challenge hosted by The Book Nympho & Geeky Bloggers Book Blog.

This year I'm co-hosting with Angel's Guilty Pleasures and we've renamed the challenge:

Library Love Challenge

March Challenge Review Link Ups

WOOT! I'm actually posting on time this month. Don't get too used to it, lol. I'm such a procrastinator, plus if it's not on the calendar then it doesn't happen. I did finally remember to add it to the calendar so maybe, just maybe, I'll be on-time next month too.

So, this is the post where you link up all your reviews for March for Finishing the Series Reading Challenge, I Love Libraries, and I Love Picture Books. If you forget, no worry. You can add at any time until the end of the year.

December and Year-end Challenge Wrap up

In 2015 I signed up for fewer year long challenges and more short-term challenges.

Hard to believe that 2015 is over. Overall, I did well with my challenges. But this year, oy, this year. I signed up to host or participate in 8 challenges plus, COYER Backs to Basics, which started last month, is still running, and I expect I'll sign up for various short-term challenges during the year. Keeping up with my challenges will be a challenge! :D

Sign Up Post for 2016 Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge!

http://www.fallingforya.com/2015/12/2016-netgalley-edelweiss-reading.html

I've been doing this challenge this year and it's helped me get my NetGalley ratio up. Currently, I'm at 79%; NG recommends 80%, and I'd like to get it up to 90%. My Edelweiss ratio is currently at 87%; I'd like to get it up to 90% also.

Falling for YA decided to host the challenge again in 2016 so I'm joining in again. Go here for more info and to sign up.

My challenge goal is level platinum, 75 books.

The Details:

  • The challenge will run from Jan 1, 2015 – Dec 31, 2015.
  • Anyone is welcome to join. You do not need to be a blogger, just post your reviews and come back every month to link them up. (I sucked at that this year; I need to do better next year.)
  • Any genre, release date, request date, length, etc. counts so long as it came from Edelweiss or Netgalley.
  • At the beginning of each month there will be a roundup post for you to add your reviews.
  • If you forget to link up one month it's not a problem just add your reviews next month.
  • If you would like to move up or down levels that is completely fine and at your discretion.
  • If you have any questions tweet @FallingForYA or e-mail Emisbookblog@aol.com!

This year I signed up for fewer year long challenges and I'll do more short-term challenges.

November was the annual Ho Ho Ho Read-A-Thon hosted by the Caffeinated Reviewer and The Book Shelfery. It's less than a week long but lots of fun! I exceeded my goal so I was happy.

I'm hosting 4 reading challenges next year as well as participating in several others. See here for more info and sign up links.

COYER: Going Back to Basics Challenge Sign Up

COYER, Back to Basics, 2016, 2015, reading challenge

COYER is one of my favorite reading challenges. Between freebies and review copies, I have way too many ebooks crying out to be read. Shush books, your turn is coming! They're noisier than a hungry cat, lol. COYER's focus is exclusively ebooks, and now audio; sorry print book, go to the end of the line.

Ho Ho Ho Read-A-Thon Wrap Up

http://beasbooknook.blogspot.com/2015/11/ho-ho-ho-read-thon-sign-up.html

The read-a-thon is over and I made my goal. Whoo hoo! *tosses confetti*

Hosted by hosted by Bookshelfery and Caffeinated Book Reviewer Nov. 12th-17th, the idea was to read holiday or winter themed books. I had an extensive list of titles to choose from and added two more during the challenge.

My goal was 5 titles from my list. I read 7 1/3, though only 7 count. I got a third of the way through book 8 but then the read-a-thon ended. The stories ranged from short stories to 300+ page novels and the genres were romances, mystery, and even erotica.

I read:

  1. A Silver Wolf Christmas by Terry Spear (Read 11/17, review to come)
  2. Summer Beach Vets: Playing Santa (Christmas Special) by H.Y. Hanna (Read 11/12; Click to see review)
  3. The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements (Read 11/12; click to see review)
  4.  What Happens At Christmas (Millworth Manor) by Victoria Alexander (Read 11/14; click to see review)
  5. Christmas Kink: Five Festive Fantasies by Kay Jaybee (Read 11/12; click to see review)
  6. The Cop Who Stole Christmas by Christie Craig - (Read 11/13-11/14; click to see review)
  7.  Killer Christmas by Harper Lin (Read 11/14; click to see review)

How did you do? If you didn't participate, do you plan on reading any holiday themed books?
