One of my all-time favorite books is "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. I read it as a child and related so strongly to both Meg and her little brother Charles. Later, I was able to appreciate the scientific and philosophical concepts. Today's quote is one that most of us can relate to. Meg is trying to save her brother and their father but first has to defeat IT. IT wants all people to be identical and conformist, sort of baby Stepford wives.

Charles continued his lecture. "On Camazotz we are all happy because we are all alike. Differences create problems. You know that, don't you, dear sister?"
"No," Meg said.
"Oh, yes you do. You've seen at home how true it is. You know that's the reason you're not happy at school. Because you're different."
"I'm different, and I'm happy," Calvin said.
"But you pretend that you aren't different."
"I'm different, and I like being different." Calvin's voice was unnaturally loud.
"Maybe I don't like being different," Meg said, "but I don't want to be like everybody else, either."

Quote-Tastic #47 Antitank missiles and Exploding Garbage Trucks, Oh My!

Years ago, a co-worker introduced me to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. For several years I enjoyed it then it got repetitive and I stopped reading. But, the early books had some good quotes and choosing only one is difficult. This is from "High Five", which is also book five.

"Uh oh," Lula said. "All the king's horses and all the king's men aren't gonna put that Porsche back together again."
"I don't get it," the driver said. "It was only a scratch. I hardly scraped against your car. Why would it explode like that?"
"That's what her cars do," Lula said. "They explode. But I gotta tell you this was the best. This here's the first time she exploded a garbage truck. One time her truck got hit with an antitank missile. That wasn't bad either, but it couldn't compare to this."

I hauled the cell phone out of my bag and dialed Morelli.

This week, the 12th through the  18th, is Children's Book Week. I'm celebrating all week with reviews and giveaways of childrens for kids of all ages. So for today's meme, I picked some quotes from one of my fave kids books, "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". It's a classic, in kids books, fantasy books, Christian books, and inspirational books. You can enjoy it on one level or many levels.

I love Jessica Scott's books and this, "Until There Was You", was one of the first I read. It's a military romance and emotions are intense between  the couple, Claire and Evan. In this scene, Evan is realizing just how much he wants Claire and also how well he understands her.

A distant rumbling moved closer. Claire tensed, her breath gentle huffs against his skin. Evan eased back, pressing his lips against her jaw, wanting so much more but afraid to move and chase her away.  Because if there was one thing he'd learned about Claire Montoyal, it was that she was a hell of a lot more skittish than he'd ever imagined. The overwhelming urge he had to protect her would only make her angry and drive her farther away.

And while the thought of her eyes flashing with anger turned him on, he wanted her desire, not her fury. It stunned him, how fiercely he wanted this woman. Wanted her in a way he hadn't allowed himself to want a woman in...ever.

Have you read any of Jessica's books? Which is your favorite?

Morgan Ashbury, who also writes as Cara Covington, writes steamy erotic romances and is a friend of mine. This is from her first published story, "Made for Each Other", and I was remember when she was working on it before it sold. She played around with stereotypes in this story but some things are pretty gender specific, such as cocks. :D

Before he could say a word she had his belt unfastened and his pants opened.
"Melissa better figure out  that you're not free. I don't share."

"Melissa? No, I didn't mean...we don't...that is to say...." He let out a huff of breath as Charlie shoved him back into his chair. In the next instant she was on her knees in front of him.

"Glad we got that settled. I guess that's ground rule number two. Now, what time were you going to pick me up for the game tonight?"

"Well, I thought...."

Words strangled off as Charlie took his cock into her mouth proceeded to suck every thought right out of his head.

Have you read any books by Morgan? What did you think?

I'm a little bit late this week; I lost track of time. Oooops.

For several years I glommed onto fun UF series, Jane True by Nicole Peeler. Then I got busy and fell behind. It's one that I'm trying to catch up on this year; in the meantime, here's a quote from the first book, "Tempest Rising". Jane and her vampire lover are engaging in some smexy times. Jane is concerned about the physical repercussions and this is their conversation:

One of my fave authors is Jodi Redford. She writes steamy, fun romances and is a blast to chat with in Twitter and facebook. This quote is from her most recent book, "Sweet Sizzle: A Red Hot Valentine Story".  In the first quote, Rory is not a fan of Valentine's Day but she's out delivering baked goods for the holiday. She's talking in the phone to her partner and friend, Hailey. In the second quote, she's at the fire station talking to two fire fighters, Ben her ex and a new fighter Michael.

One of the challenges I'm doing this year is Finishing the Series, hosted by Socrates' Book Reviews. I've been so busy with review books that I've fallen behind on some series, including the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn. I got this one from the library and while I'm not living it, I am enjoying it. In this scene, Kitty is in human form, and has just met up with her husband Ben, who's in wolf form. Sun is a new acquaintance of Kitty's.

Sun watched us. I expected him to run screaming at the sight of the big slavering wolf. Most people would have. But he didn't flinch. Maybe he wasn't even surprised.
"That's a pretty big dog," Sun said.
"It's not a dog, it's my husband!"
"Huh. That's progressive."
"Shut up, he's a werewolf too."
"Yeah? Hi there." Sun waved.

This week's quote is from Duncan, by D.B. Reynolds. It's one of her Vampires in America novels and here Duncan is proving just how hot and sexy he is. Whew!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12729465-duncan"Besides," she added softly, and looked up to meet his eyes. "You owe me hours of incredible sex." Duncan grew still, his gaze hot and intent, but not with anger this time. "What I promised you was hours of making love, not simply sex," he murmured, brushing his lips over hers, before his teeth closed gently on her lower lip. "There is a difference, darlin'."

Quote-Tastic #39 Even in Heaven, there's a dress code.

This is from a satirical short story by Krista D Ball. The story is called "Heaven, Inc". In this scene, several angels are having a conversation.

"Why do you insist on us wearing this modern nonsense?"
William slipped a finger around his collar to rescue his throat from the necktie's noose. He hated the new dress code as much as anyone, having worn snappy waistcoats for hundreds of years. "Don't blame me. It's HR's decision."
Both men stared at Rachel.
"What?" She asked, and then sighed when the men wouldn't break their stares. "The dress code really wasn't my doing. I only asked that we cut down on fabric expenses, since the French girls from the revolution were eating up most of the budget. I had no idea this would be result. I preferred my afternoon tea gowns to this"- she motioned to her gray jacket and skirt set,"-modern obscenity."
Owain scowled. "This is why we kept our women pregnant. They were too busy popping out babies to make decisions."

I read a light and fluffy paranormal romance, "A Witch's Handbook to Kisses and Curses", by Molly Harper. I loved her Naked Werewolf series and liked the sound of this so I got it from my library. It had lots of funny scenes and lines, picking one was hard.

As I've said before, I love Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. "Amityville Horrible" focuses on the werewolf Alpha Jeremy and his necromancer girl friend Jaime, but this scene has Jaime and a witch, Savannah. Both Jaime and Savannah have a tendency to get kidnapped and need rescuing. :D

Quote-Tastic #35 A Walk on the Wild Side

In the past week, I've read two wonderful urban fantasies and today I have a quote from one, "Written In Red" by Anne Bishop. Although, it's an earth with an alternate history so strictly speaking it's not 'urban' fantasy. Regardless, it was excellent and I've pre-ordered book two. :)

In this world, humans and Others or terra indigene, vampires, werewolves, etc. live in separate communities and mostly avoid each other. The local community of Others has a newspaper, complete with an advice column. :D Enjoy!

Dear Ms.Know-It-All,
The other night, I had a friend over for dinner and a walk on the wild side (if you know what I mean). Everything was going fine until the kissing and petting part. I got a little excited when he began to play push-away after I nipped him and, well, I ended up biting him on the thigh. It wasn't a big bite-didn't even need stitching-and despite what he claimed, it really wasn't all that close to his chew toy. Now he won't return my calls. What should I do? Signed, Puzzled

Dear Puzzled,
First, young terra indigene often get confused when food provides more than one kind of stimulation. But when you invite a human over for dinner, he expects to be served dinner, not be dinner. Second, even though humans claim to enjoy biting as foreplay, they only mean it when their partners don't have teeth of any significance. Third, no male, human or Other, feels easy when teeth get too close to the chew toy. So chalk this up to experience, and the next time you invite a human to take a walk on the wild side, stick to a jog in the park.

Sounds like good advice to me! "chew toy" - giggle
