Cat Thursday - Cat in the Box

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The True Book Addict that celebrates cats; their foibles and humorousness and the joy they bring. You can join in by posting a favorite LOL cat pic you made or came across, cat art or share with us pics of your own felines, then post your link up at The True Book Addict.

Yes, another cat in boxes post. :D Cats just find boxes so darn irresistible. Goof decided recently that the box I use to hold my recycling would be a good spot to hang out. I had just emptied it and he wasted no time jumping in. You can see that he's not impressed with my taking his picture. Again. :D

Why Writing Is Right - A Guest Post by Stephen Martino

Medical thrillers are all the rage again and I have a weakness for them. Today's guest is from Stephen Martino, celebrating the release of his thriller "The New Reality", which mixes medicine with current events.

Stephen holds an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is a neurologist in New Jersey. When he is not working, he can be found with his five children doing homework or cheering them on at a soccer field, basketball court, or dance recital. Martino is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Cub Scout den leader and is an active public speaker, helping to educate the local community and healthcare professionals on the signs, symptoms and treatment of stroke. THE NEW REALITY is his first novel.

"Fast Track" is a romance, with a mystery sub-plot. Aiden and Cordie have known each other for years, and she's had a crush on him all that time. In this scene, Cordie is recovering from some injuries while staying at Aiden's place; in her boredom, she's taken to watching a show about fishing. I could completely relate to poor Cordie and this scene made me laugh.

"I have to get out of here for a little while."
Aiden shook his head at her. It wasn't the thing to do at the moment. She turned to him and grabbed hold of his shirt. "I'm losing it," she said. She let go of him and took a step back.
"Stop smiling. I mean it. I'm really losing it." She raised her hand in front of his face and put her finger and thumb close together until they were almost touching. "I'm this close to writing Larry a fan letter, for God's sake. This close Aiden."
"Who the hell is Larry?" Alec asked.
She whirled around to face him. "Larry the fisherman." Her tone suggested he should already know that.

Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.

Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he unknowingly puts her life at risk. He’s recently angered a powerful congressman by refusing to purchase overvalued land. Congressman Chambers is not a man to let such an offense slide, and he has the resources to get even and to get what he wants.

In Australia sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but multiple attempts on Aiden’s life are made while Cordelia is with him, and he realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.

What happens when love gets caught in the rain?

In this romance anthology, RITA-Award winning author Molly O’Keefe shows us the power of a city thunderstorm from the top of a skyscraper, while Amy Jo Cousins soaks us in a rain in Spain. New York Times bestselling author Ruthie Knox’s heroine is devastated by a winter storm, while a summer thunderstorm grants Alexandra Haughton’s hero and heroine a second chance at love. Rain sparks self-awareness in the robot in Charlotte Stein’s story and allows Mary Ann Rivers’s heroine to fall in love with her hero and her own art. Rain causes romance between the college students in Audra North’s and Shari Slade’s stories, while romance causes rain in Cecilia Tan’s myth-inspired tale of a sacrifice to a demi-god. Nine romance novelettes, edited by Sarah Frantz.

I HAVE AIR CONDITIONING!!!

A friend found a good deal on a portable unit at BJ's Discount Club and let me use her membership to purchase it. Eventually I'll have to replace the wall unit but right now this is a better fit for my budget. So naturally, the temps were cooler last week; so much so that Goof  abandoned the cool tile floor of the dark bathroom to go back to his ottoman under the sunny living room window. I also got a lot of reading done last week despite being back at work.
