New Mira Grant Book!

Subterranean Press announced that they are taking pre-orders for the new story they are publishing, "Rolling in the Deep" by Mira Grant. It's scheduled to be published next year, in April 2015. It will be a limited edition, with a run of 1000 signed and numbered hardcover editions, for $40US.

The blurb ~

When the Imagine Network commissioned a documentary on mermaids, to be filmed from the cruise ship Atargatis, they expected what they had always received before: an assortment of eyewitness reports that proved nothing, some footage that proved even less, and the kind of ratings that only came from peddling imaginary creatures to the masses.

They didn't expect actual mermaids. They certainly didn't expect those mermaids to have teeth.

This is the story of the Atargatis, lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the bathypelagic zone in the Mariana Trench…and the depths are very good at keeping secrets.

I don't love the cover but it's eye-catching; I want to know what's on her face, or is that her face? And the background color is lovely. It's Mira Grant so I know the story will be good.

New Charles de Lint Novella!

I got an email from Subterranean Press today. They are printing a limited run of a new story by Charles de Lint, the author whose books introduced me to urban fantasy. I've moved away from his books in recent years but this one sounds so good, I'm tempted.

The blurb ~ Maria Martinez is a young maid, cleaning houses to get by, living in a neighborhood of Santo del Vado Viejo plagued by gang violence and drug cartels. When Maria witnesses her best friend from her teenage years breaking into a house in a gated community where she’s working, she has no problem pretending to the police she didn’t see a thing. But as Luz Chaidez comes back into Maria’s life, Maria can’t help remembering the magic Luz left to look for all those years ago. Magic she may have found. Maria is curiously drawn to one of Luz’s green-hooded gang of robbers, a handsome redheaded boy who calls himself Jack Green. Soon enough, she’s venturing into the dangerous territory of robbing from the rich to give to the poor…

From SubPress's email:
In this 22,000 word novella, Charles de Lint brings one of the world’s most beloved tales into the modern day, transporting Robin Hood from the green wood to the barrio. Jack in the Green recasts an epic story of love and friendship, with justice at its center, in a way that readers won’t soon forget.

Jack in the Green features a full-color dust jacket, and five interior b&w vignettes by longtime de Lint collaborator, Charles Vess.

The book is a limited, signed, numbered hardcover edition, with only 2000 copies available. You can pre-order here - http://subterraneanpress.com/store/product_detail/jack_in_the_green

The gorgeous cover -

I'm really tempted, I'm a fan of the Robin Hood story, but the price is too high for me. :(

Available for Pre-order! Brazen, Nick's story, by Kelley Armstrong

*Does the Snoopy happy dance*

It's here! Well, it isn't actually in my hands or anything like that but Nick's story is available for pre-order and baby, did I pre-order. LOL

I love Kelley's world and especially her werewolves. Nick has long been one of my favorites so I am ecstatic that he has a story. She did write a hilarious short story about him several years ago that can be found in one of her anthologies but this is longer and presumably more in-depth. Plus it has art by Xaviere, who has illustrated many other novellas and short stories by Kelley.

The details ~

Available in two versions, trade and limited. Trade is a fully cloth bound hardcover edition, priced at $28US and will feature a full-color dust jacket as well as four full-color interior illustrations. The limited version, which I splurged on, is also hardcover, bound in leather, with a different dust jacket than the trade edition, full-color endsheets, and two additional full-color illustrations not in the trade, and only 1000 copies available. They are signed and numbered and cost $48US.

The blurb ~

Nick Sorrentino knows everyone in the supernatural world considers him the Pack’s playboy, the pretty but not very useful werewolf whose only reputation involves his amorous exploits.

Usually, Nick couldn’t care less what anyone outside the Pack thinks of him. But when it affects his hunt for Malcolm Danvers, a psychotic bogeyman from the Pack’s past, it matters.

Necessity forces Nick to team up with mercenary half-demon Vanessa Callas to run Malcolm to ground in Detroit. Together, they discover Malcolm is more deadly than ever. And he wants to play.

It’s time for Nick to prove he’s not just a lover.

He’s a fighter.

Nick taking on Malcolm, this ought to be good.  :)

That's a lot of blood and bones. I can't wait to find out what happened.

These special editions are not cheap by any means; if you're a hardcore Stephen King fan, they might be worth it. I can not wait for my copy to arrive. I'm indulging and ordering both the ebook and the print. :)

Amityville Horrible by Kelley Armstrong, A New Novella

Yes, Kelley has ANOTHER one. She is a busy lady and I love it. This is an Otherworld story featuring Jaime Vargas, the necromancer fans either love or hate. "Amityville Horrible" will be available as an ebook first, before the end of the year, with the hardcover to follow in January. Squee! However, the hardcover of"Amityville Horrible" will only be available as a signed, limited edition, with a much smaller print run than other novellas by Kelley, so don't delay if you're interested. It won't be available to large online retailers or wholesalers, so a direct order from Subterranean is your best bet. If you have a copy of Kelley's novella, "Forbidden" on order, they'll automatically match your number. The book is available for pre-order. There's no cover yet but according to the Subterranean Press site, the dust jacket and interior illustrations will be by Maurizio Manzieri. The ebook will be available from the same online vendors as Angelic, Counterfeit Magic and Hidden.

The blurb: Jaime Vegas—spiritualist, entertainer and, unbeknownst to her audience, real-life necromancer—swore she’d never do another reality ghost show after the last fiasco. But when she’s railroaded into a charity gig, she finds herself back on the set, this time with a cast of photogenic college kids, an up-and¬-coming Russian spiritualist, and a tale of missing girls and murder in New England. It’s cheesy, but that’s show business. With her werewolf Alpha lover, Jeremy Danvers, along to keep her nights interesting, it’s not so bad really. Until the bloody ghosts show up. Jaime has never faced spirits like these, and no matter how hard she tries, they won’t be ignored.
