Sunday Book Share #165

I'm participating in The Sunday Post, hosted by Caffeinated Book ReviewerStacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews; and Bought Borrowed and Bagged, hosted by TalkSupe. It's a chance to share the print and digital books we've received and posts and events on the blog.

I had a busy week at my new job; the first few days were paperwork and orientation, then the second half of the week was spent in my new classroom. I love young toddlers, they're fun.:)

The cats and I had a quiet Halloween as the kids in the complex go elsewhere for trick or treating. My school didn't do anything for the holiday so it was quiet all around. I did have to go get fingerprinted on Halloween. It's a state requirement for teachers and every time you change jobs, you have to do it again. How was your Halloween?

I had a wonderful lunch this week with romance authors Laura K. Curtis (she also writes mysteries) and Lexxi Callahan. They were in Boston visiting romance author Penny Watson. Penny was sick and couldn't join us but the three of us got together for lunch at Faneuil Hall. I had a wonderful time and lobster mac-n-cheese is AWESOME! I often chat with Laura on Twitter and we met last year at a reader get-together but it was my first time meeting with Lexxi. They were both delightful and I could have chatted with them all afternoon.

Tomorrow, I start my job. Eeep. My stomach has hordes of butterflies winging around. Which reminds me, I need to prepare lunch for tomorrow.

I have a full-time teaching job! I start  in 2 weeks and I'll be teaching my preferred age group, young toddlers. :) Saturday night I got together with some friends for pizza and a movie and we celebrated.

My friend Elle made the pic below for me. I've put it up as my profile pic at Twitter and Facebook. I love it!

A quiet week here, not much going on. The weather warmed up again, hitting 70 most days, with lots of sunshine. It was perfect October weather even with the pouring rain on Friday.  It was a quiet work week, and I'm still looking for a full-time teaching job.

My flight to DC was uneventful. I was there Monday through Thursday, the funeral was on Wednesday. A lot of people turned up for the funeral. My stepmother's house was full and more relatives were scattered around various hotels. Mother Nature was crabby and it poured in the morning before the church service but then the rain changed to drizzle for the grave site service. It was my first military service and it was beautiful, if not quite as depicted on "NCIS". I still can't believe he's gone.

Tomorrow I head out for my father's funeral. The funeral will be Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery. I come back home on Thursday. I'm not taking my laptop so I won't be around much. I may pop online occasionally via my cell but don't expect me to visit or comment much.

I think Mother Nature is confused. The week started off cool, gray, and rainy then summer came back and it's been sunny and in the 80s. But I'm happy I've been able to turn off the A/C and I'm looking forward to the lower electric bill. In other news, I had an interview for a full-time teaching position that looks promising and, despite the summer weather, yesterday I went apple picking. :)

Thank you to everyone for the kind words and congratulations on my blogaversary. I'm still amazed it's been 5 years, how'd that happen? :D

Other than the blogaversary celebrations, it was a quiet week - the car hunting is temporarily on hold, I took care of a friend's cats over the long weekend, did some author assistant work, worked at my church's fall fair, and lots of reading and review writing. I have a job interview on Monday for a full-time position that's 3/4 teaching and 1/4 curriculum coordinator, which would be new for me. Send positive thoughts my way please!

The blog turned five years old last week, on Friday September 4th. When I first started, I thought I'd blog for maybe a couple of years, if that long, as I've never been any good at keeping a journal or diary. :D Yet five years, I'm still here and going strong. :)

On Wednesday, two days shy of its birthday, the blog reached a million page views! *throws confetti*

A week off, hallejulah. I slept late, read a lot, did more car searching (so far, I've had 2 cars fall through), attended a teacher training, and went out to lunch with a friend. A quiet week. :) Today, some friends and I are going to an art museum.

Done with summer subbing! I'm not scheduled to work again for a while so I'm hoping that this week I'll be able wrap up car shopping.

I had to laugh Saturday night. A friend who lives up the road was out for an evening walk and saw an ambulance turn into my condominium complex. She immediately whipped out her cell phone and called me, "You better not be having an asthma attack!" LOL No, no asthma attack. The ambulance wasn't there for me; it was parked in front of the building next to mine. I hope my neighbor is okay and I'm grateful to my friend for checking on me even as her comment made me laugh.

Last week was quiet, not much going on. There's one week left of the current school year at my school then they are closed for a week to prep for the new year. Then, my summer of subbing is done and it's back to working sporadically.

Still no new car, still looking. We had severe thunderstorms, hail and tornado warnings Tuesday afternoon. There were lots of branches and trees down, a few places lost power, but that was the extent of the damage.

We have a date for my father's funeral, did I mention that yet? I can't recall. It's September 30th. Arlington Cemetery and Fort Myer are very serious about security: we have to provide a guest list, family and guests have to show ID at the base gate, cars are subject to a search, and the chapel doors are locked at the service's starting time. If you're late, you don't get in the chapel.

Another busy week at work. We said goodbye to some children who are leaving, some to kindergarten and a few to new preschools. I have a lead on a new car, my mechanic will look it over on Tuesday. So naturally, my current car got a flat on the way home from work Friday night. I had to wait for AAA to tow the car and then wait for a friend to come get me, but you know, it wasn't a bad night. I was in a shopping plaza waiting for AAA so I popped into the grocery store and got a sandwich, chips and drink for dinner while I waited for the truck. He drove to my auto place, left the car and I there, and I sat outside on a bench, talking with one friend on my cell phone while waiting for another friend to pick me up. The weather out was beautiful, dry air, comfortable temperature, and no mosquitos. It wasn't the worst way to spend an evening. But I hope this car I'm looking at pans out.

Another 40 hour week at school but it was a good week. Messy art activities, some science experiments, fun literacy/sensory play (I love combining different domains into one activity), the kids and I were busy. :) Next week instead of being in one room all week, I'm bouncing around from room to room so I won't do as much curriculum planning or implementing. I'll plan some simple things though in case I have the opportunity to actually do some curriculum.

In other news, one of my neighbors got an adorable new puppy, two months old, and he's smaller than my foot! He's a Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua mix and just adorable. He's also a real sweetie, friendly and calm. I am so very tempted to commit dognapping! Goof and Claude would probably object. As would the puppy's owner. :D
