May's Reading Challenges Wrap Up

I'll put up a wrap up post every month or early the next month for all of my 2013 reading challenges. I'm a little late this month, running behind. Some books, I posted reviews on the blog, some are on goodreads, there may be one or two without reviews, especially books I edit or that are put out by my publisher.

In May, I took part in the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge hosted by The Caffeinated Reviewer and The Windy Pages. I posted my results here. I didn't do as much as I wanted but I did make a dent in my ARC pile so I'm happy.

Today I'm delighted to present an excerpt from, "A Brother's Honor",  which is the first book in a sizzling new series, The Grangers, about one legacy, three brothers, and a lifetime of secrets by New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Brenda Jackson. Similar in style to the television series, DALLAS, Jackson’s hottest new series is filled with family drama, wealth, sex, intrigue, power, and even murder.

Interview with Author Jean Fullerton & Excerpt from Call Nurse Millie

Today I have the lovely author Jean Fullerton here and she kindly answered some questions for me concerning her new book and her writing. So get comfy and let's talk. Jean was born into a large, East End family and grew up in the overcrowded streets clustered around the Tower of London. Jean still lives in East London, just five miles from where she was born. She feels that it is that her background that gives her historical East London stories their distinctive authenticity.

Blurb from goodreads:
Chrysander Notos, Supreme God of the South Wind and Summer, is on a mission: save Eurus from his death sentence and prove his troubled brother can be redeemed. But Eurus fights back, triggering vicious summer storms that threaten the mortal realm, dangerously drain Chrys, and earn the ire of the Olympic gods who ordered Eurus dead.

Laney Summerlyn refuses to give up her grandfather’s horse farm, despite her deteriorating vision. More than ever, she needs the organized routine of her life at Summerlyn Stables, until a ferocious storm brings an impossible—and beautiful—creature crashing down from the heavens.

Injured while fighting Eurus, Chrys finds himself at the mercy of a mortal woman whose compassion and acceptance he can’t resist. As they surrender to the passion flaring between them, immortal enemies close in, forcing Chrys to choose between his brother and the only woman who’s ever loved the real him.

New Cover! Hunted by D.B. Reynolds

Yes, another cover. Apparently today is the day for them. :) This is for a novella by D.B. Reynolds, an author whose PNR books I enjoy. "Hunted" is part of her Vampires in America series and focuses on Cyn and Raphael. If you haven't read their stories yet, save this one until you do.

I'm not generally fond of reds or oranges but this cover is eerie and evocative, which seems just right to me.

New Cover! The Shining from Stephen King and Subterranean Press

Back in the fall, I shared an announcement from Subterranean Press concerning an illustrated limited edition version of The Shining by Stephen King. Today, they revealed the cover. The artwork is by Vincent Chong.

You have to be a hardcore King lover as the book is not cheap and it is a limited Gift edition: 1500 Deluxe Hardcover copies, housed in a custom slipcase, with bonus chapbook: $95. If you order The Shining before the end of business on June 7, 2013 will also receive a bonus chapbook of Vincent Chong's sketches available nowhere else.
