Bea Reviews The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde

Publisher: Amazon Digital Services
Source: purchased
Release Date: May 17, 2012
Challenges: Dust Off Your Classics
Buying Links: Amazon* | Book Depository* | OmniLit* | Barnes & Noble | goodreads
* affiliate links; the blog receives a small commission from purchases made through these links.

Blurb from goodreads:

This is Oscar Wilde's tale of the American family moved into a British mansion, Canterville Chase, much to the annoyance its tired ghost. The family -- which refuses to believe in him -- is in Wilde's way a commentary on the British nobility of the day -- and on the Americans, too. The tale, like many of Wilde's, is rich with allusion, but ends as sentimental romance. . .

October Blog Ahead Challenge

http://www.herdingcats-burningsoup.com/2015/09/blog-ahead-2015.html

Anna at Herding Cats & Burning Soup is once again hosting her Blog Ahead challenge and this time she's joined by Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. The idea is to write and schedule posts ahead of time and have a cushion. The goal is 31 posts, scheduled for November onward.

Any blogger or author can join and pretty much any posts counts: memes, reviews, discussions, guest posts, cooking posts, etc. The posts do not have to be book related.

Want to join in? Go here and sign up.

I don't know if I can actually get 31 posts written but I'll try. I want to do 8 Cat Thursday posts, 2 Waiting on Wednesday posts, 2 Soapy Saturday posts, and a mix of reviews and discussion for the rest. I track all of my challenges in a monthly wrap up post and I'll try to remember to also track them in my weekly Sunday Share post.

Come join the fun and get ahead on your blogging!

COYER Scavenger Hunt Sign Up Post

COYER Scavenger Hunt - (un)Conventional Bookviews

It's COYER time again! This summer there are activities galore planned, most of which I will not do but I am going to try do one or two. You can read all about them here.

For those of you unfamiliar with COYER, it's a challenge run several times a year to help you read those freebies cluttering up your ereader. This summer the hosts, Michelle @ Because Reading, Stormi @ Books, Movies, Reviews, Oh My! and Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun are also counting print books. My focus will be on ebooks but a few print books may make their way in.

I'm not going to make a list as my reading lists lately have simply not gone according to plan. :D Instead, I have a total goal: 22 books. That's 2 books a week, which should be doable. Every month I'll include my COYER results in my monthly challenge wrap up post

It's not too late, you can still sign up! If you're participating, good luck and have fun!

Sign Up - March 2015 Take Control Of Your TBR Pile Challenge

Take Control 2015

It's that time again! For the third year in a row, The Caffeinated Reviewer is hosting her challenge for reading your own books. Not review books, not library books, but books you own. It's so easy to shove aside the books you want to read in favor of the books you have to read but the entire month of March is a chance to focus on those personal books. I've been doing that somewhat this month with my Winning at Reading Challenge where we've been reading books we were given or won. For the TBR challenge, I'll focus on books that I've purchased.

From Kimba's post, here are the rules and fine print:

  • Link-up! This is open to everyone. If you do not have a blog then link your Facebook or Goodreads account.
  • Make a Goals/updates/Results post (can be combined) On Goodreads create a folder for Take Control and share your intentions on your wall.
  • Begins March 1st, 2015 and ends March 31, 2015 at midnight.
  • Read/listen to books from your TBR pile .
  • ALL books must have been published before March 2015.
  • Post a review to Goodreads, your blog or Facebook then link it to the Rafflecopter for an entry. (mini review)
  • You can combine events, challenges etc.
  • No novellas for this one peeps
  • The rafflecopter will only allow you to enter up to two books daily, so update as soon as you finish a book.
  • Earn an extra entry for adding Take Control Button to your blog, or facebook (with link-back)
  • Use hashtag #TakeControlTBR
  • Twitter Party and read-a-thon will be announced to help you reach your goals.
  • Rafflecopter will close on April 2, 2015 at midnight and a winner will be chosen within 72 hours. Open internationally as long as Book Depository/Amazon/ Barnes and Noble ship to you. Prize: New 2015 release valued at up to $20.00. I will do pre-orders as well. (may request eBook or Audible audio copy)

My goal: 4

The exact list is of course subject to change depending on my mood but this is the tentative line up. :)

Tempest's Fury by Nicole Peeler
Hiding in Plain Sight by Cassandra Carr
Masques by Patricia Briggs
Tranquility's Blaze by Krista D. Ball

I also have some novellas and short stories I want to read that will not count for the challenge so they're an unofficial goal.

Wallking On Her Grave by Melinda Leigh
Unforgiven by D.B. Reynolds
The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell by Mira Grant

Are you ready? I AM!

Let's read!

Winning at Reading Begins Today!

http://beasbooknook.blogspot.com/2015/01/winning-at-reading-challenge.html

Are you ready? Today is the day! All month, we'll be working on books that you've won or received as a gift. Maybe you only have one or two, maybe you have a dozen, but here's your chance to finally sit down and read (or listen). It's so easy to shove them aside in favor or a library book or review book and they sit collecting dust. Well, grab that book, dust it off, and READ!

Winning at Reading Challenge!

Did you receive any books for the holidays? Or have some sitting from the holidays several years ago?

Have you won any books? Have you read them yet?

Are they sitting on a shelf or e-reader, collecting dust?

Blurb from goodreads:

Christina Forrester is starting over. After a financial scandal sent her ex-husband to prison, she's left raising her young son without any of the comforts of their old life. Budgets, coupons, lawn care—you name it, she's learning to do it all on her own. Well, almost on her own—she'd be lost without Gail Broughton, the kind widow across the street. But when Gail's son comes home, Christina's vow to never trust a man again is put to the test.

Will Broughton left town because he was tired of being "that poor man" who lost his wife and unborn child in a tragic accident. But years have passed and, with his dad gone and his mom alone, it's time to go home. Only his mother's not alone. She's taken Christina under her wing, and the beautiful and determined single mother awakens something in Will he thought was buried forever.

As Will and Christina are forced to spend more time together, feelings that are more than neighborly grow between them. And with Christmas coming and a child filling both houses with holiday cheer, it becomes nearly impossible not to embrace the joy—and the love—in their lives.

Experience the vampire world for the holidays through the eyes of Gigi Scanlon in this e-novella prequel to The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire from beloved paranormal romance author Molly Harper!

College co-ed Gigi is headed home to Half-Moon Hollow for her first Christmas since her sister, Iris, was turned into a vampire by her beloved undead husband, Cal. Iris is working overtime to make this holiday as normal and special as possible. After all, it’s taken her months of working with Jane Jameson and the Hollow’s vampires to convince herself that she won’t bite her baby sister on sight.

Gigi has her own worries. She’s falling out of love with her high school sweetheart, Ben, and has no idea how to tell him. She’s got a secret job interview with terrifying teen Council official, Ophelia Lambert. And there’s a handsome but cagey vampire following her around town and then disappearing before Gigi can confirm that he’s not, in fact, a figment of her fertile imagination. Holidays with family are complicated. Christmas with an undead family can be downright dangerous.
