Sunday Book Share #148

I'm participating in The Sunday Post, hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer; Showcase Sunday hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea; Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews; and Bought Borrowed and Bagged, hosted by TalkSupe. All of these memes are about sharing the print and digital books received and/or posts and events on the blog.

Another quiet week on the blog; it's just going to be that way this summer I think. I had a good week at school but also applied for some full-time positions elsewhere. I like where I am but need full-time hours.

Yesterday was a holiday here in the US, Independence Day or the 4th of July. I had plans for the 4th but came down with a stomach bug. So instead I dozed a lot and watched a lot of movies on NetFlix. It was also Canada Day earlier in the week. I hope those of you celebrating either or both holidays had a good time.

Another quiet week on the blog. I have some tours coming up but otherwise the blog will continue to be quiet. I'm trying to find a new rhythm as well as catch up on reviews but I'm not going anywhere, just tweaking and shifting things around.

It was a quiet week on the blog last week and probably will be again this week. Between the work and life in general, I've not had much time or energy to blog. Also, I won't be online much today as it's Father's Day here in the US and it's everywhere, there's no escaping it. I'll call my stepmother later since this is the first Father's Day since my dad died. I have plenty to do so I'll have no trouble keeping busy today.

Last week I felt like I was treading water, between working full-time at the day job and a lot of freelance work. I worked, I slept, I worked, I slept. But it was a good week at school, and the weather was sunny and warm but not hot. Goof has been ever more creative about getting into the trash. I need to put a baby latch on the cabinet in the kitchen and keep him out. The brat.

I had a quiet week last week. The day job kept me busy, I did some editing and some freelance work, and I've almost beat this asthma flare into submission. I got a new TV that a friend gave me. I'm hoping to hook it up today to my DVD player and VCR player. Yes, I still have a VCR player. :D The new TV is hi def, small and ultra light, and is internet capable. I should be able to get Hulu and NetFlix on it, which I'm really looking forward to. No more watching on my 7" tablet! YAY! Yes, it's the little things.

This week starts my summer schedule at the day job. I'm working 10-6 every day so with the commute, that's 9-7 every day. Blog posts may suffer depending on how tired I am. I'm in 2 classrooms this week, 1 of which has asked me to contribute curriculum so I've been busy planning. Usually as a sub, I just do whatever was planned or come up with something on the fly so I'm enjoying having a chance to plan ahead.

It turned to summer last week; we had temps in the 80's, it hit 90 one day, and it was high humidity every day. I kept telling myself at least there was no snow or ice and it wasn't freezing out. This week is supposed to start in the high 50s and rainy then it gets progressively warmer until we're back in the 80s. Crazy weather.

I'm still playing catch up with reviews but I'm slowly making progress. I'm sick again, probably due to working so many hours last week and the humidity. I have a lighter schedule this week so maybe I can kill off this asthma flare before it gets too bad.

It's a holiday weekend and the official beginning of summer here in the US. I have no particular plans though I do have friends coming by today. Starting this Tuesday, I'll be putting in a lot of extra hours at the day job so I won't be online as much in June. I still have reviews to write and get up but I'm slowly making progress.

Sunday Book Share #141 Back Home and Tired

It has been a crazy few weeks. My dad, who'd been ailing, died May 4th so I was out of town from the 4th til the morning of the 12th. And we're not even done. My dad was a retired military officer who wanted to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. But, they have an insane backlog and it will be 4-6 months before they can bury him. I let loose with a few swear words, let me tell you. Like this isn't hard enough?! Now he's in cold storage, waiting his turn.

I have a LOT of catching up to do, reading review books, writing reviews, and of course non-blog stuff. I ditched a few planned posts but most I've rescheduled. You'll see a lot of reviews, hopefully, over the next few weeks as I get them written and then posted. As you can imagine, I didn't succeed, didn't even come close, in the mini Blog Ahead challenge. But, the past few weeks have emphasized how important it is to have that buffer so once I'm caught up, I'll try to get ahead.

On a happier note, thank you to all of you for your kind words and support the past few weeks, it's meant a lot. <3

Sunday Post #140 Death in the Family

Well, my dad died so I'm currently out of town. I'm scheduled to return home late Monday night. I'll get a regular Sunday Post up next week and this week I'll try to catch up on the posts I didn't get done the past few weeks while I've been busy with my family.

Today is also Mother's Day here in the US. Some members of the family have already returned to their homes but my siblings and I are still at my stepmother's house and we're taking her out for brunch today. Two more days and it will be the 32nd anniversary of my mother's death. Two days after that and it will be my niece's birthday, which is all that keeps the month of May from being a complete disaster.

Sunday Book Share #139 Stressed and Tired

So as you know from last week's post, I have family stuff going on, and I wasn't online much last week. Most of my reviews didn't happen. I have a lot planned for this week but I still have to get most of it ready and I'm behind now. Heck, much of this week's schedule may not happen.

In short, my father is dying. Last weekend it seemed imminent so I flew to my dad and stepmother's house. The priest came and did Last Rites but as of Saturday morning when I'm typing this, dad is still hanging in. I'm back in my home now, jumping every time the phone rings or a new text message beeps. So, if I go quiet or posts don't show up, you know why.

Last week got off to a good start. I enjoyed my birthday celebration with my friends, then midweek life went kablooey. This week will be mop up so the blog may be quiet. Or I may hide from the real world and busy myself with the blog. We'll see.

Sunday Book Share #135 Easter Edition

Do you watch the TV show "Bitten" which is inspired by Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld books? Season 2 is currently airing in Canada and Britain and I've been reading the most hilarious recaps in a private Facebook group. Some of us convinced her to blog her recaps. Well, the blog is up and running. I LOVE IT! WARNING: her recaps contain swearing, mega spoilers, and snark. They are friggin' awesome.

In other news it was a pretty good week. I signed a contract with an author to do copy edits for her next five books. I'm working on book one now. I also won an assortment of giveaways, see below, and every day has been warmer. There's not much snow left on the ground but there is still some (see pic below). I've started tearing apart the condo aka started spring cleaning. Today, I'm taking a break and having Easter brunch with some friends. Happy Easter to all who are celebrating today.
