Blurb from goodreads:

The death of her friend and mentor, Evelyn Ballinger, brings psychic counselor Gwen Frazier back to the small town of Wilby, Oregon, and brings back memories she would rather forget. Two years earlier, a killer stalked the members of one of Ballinger’s research studies including Gwen. And though she survived while two others didn’t, Gwen knows that Ballinger’s death is related.

Sent by a friend to help Gwen, psychic investigator Judson Coppersmith arrives in Wilby barely in control of his own talent and his own life, haunted by urgent dreams. His attraction to Gwen is primal, but there are secrets he must keep to protect himself from surrendering to her completely, even as their investigation draws them into dreamscapes, into decades of deception, and into the paranormal fires of a desire too strong to resist.

My Thoughts:

I've enjoyed Krentz's books for years, under all of her pseudonyms, but I am partial to her various, and many, psychic books. Being me, I've read them in no particular order and am still missing some. Local library to the rescue! Being in self isolation during the corona virus pandemic, and laid off from my day job until the governor allows us to reopen, has given me lots of time for reading. I am making full use of it, lol. My stepmother, the silly woman, actually asked me if I had enough books! If she only realized. Anyway, while perusing the library's ebook catalog, this book came up so I grabbed it.

Of course, I didn't realize it was book two, but that rarely stops me, and it was not a problem. I didn't need to have read book one for this to make sense or be enjoyable. I do want to read book one at some point, for my own enjoyment, and eventually book three.

"Dream Eyes" had lots of action, thrills, suspense, and romance. There were quirky characters, a grumpy cat named Max <3, an antagonistic cop, found families (Nick NEEDS his own book!!!), and psychic abilities. The story followed Krentz's usual formula and tropes - the found family, the connection to one or more of Krentz's other series, including some of her Amanda Quick historicals, the alpha male, the strong yet vulnerable female, one or more emotionally tortured main characters, etc.

"Dream Eyes" offered nothing new, and it isn't a stand out story, but it's a solid and entertaining story. It filled my need for a comfort read, a story where I could predict the broad strokes and some of the details, a few surprises, characters who felt familiar, where justice was served, and had a happy ending. "Dream Eyes" is worth a read.

  3. I definitely want to read more of this author's work. It is good to know that this series can be read out of order. I am so glad you enjoyed this one.

    1. Most of her trilogies and series are interconnected but can be read out of order.

  4. I've never read her (I don't think?!) but I'm a big fan of romantic suspense. I do like pets in stories! :-)

  5. It has been awhile since I have read her books. I need to correct that misstep.

  6. Good review, Bea! I agree that Nick needs his own book, or at least a short story. Alas, there is no book three, for some reason. Which left me feeling as though things were a bit unfinished, even though this book does have a satisfying conclusion.
