Cover Reveal - HARD AS YOU CAN by Laura Kaye

Avon is proud to announce the publication of  Laura Kaye’s second book in her hot Hard Ink series, "HARD AS YOU CAN" , on sale February 25, 2014. I'm delighted we can participate in the cover reveal for the book.

Blurb from Avon:
Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can-and never let go.

Laura is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of nearly a dozen books in contemporary and paranormal romance. Growing up, Laura’s large extended family believed in the supernatural, and family lore involving angels, ghosts, and evil-eye curses cemented in Laura a life-long fascination with storytelling and all things paranormal. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two daughters, and cute-but-bad dog, and appreciates her view of the Chesapeake Bay every day.

I'm back in Sirantha Jax universe this week. I'm really enjoying this series; it's sci fi romance and it's very good. This quote is from book three, "Doubleblind". Jax is an ambassador to a planet populated by sentient bugs who hate humans. She's getting ready for an official party.

She goes on. "You may wish to pay particular attention to Devri. His physiological readings, if I have analyzed them correctly, indicate a certain excitement in your presence. I have insufficient data to determine whether his interest is sexual."

Now that surprises the sh** out of me. Being attracted to soft-skins would certainly be considered a kink among Ithtorians, if not an outright perversion. I can't imagine such a misalliance being accepted.

"It might just be enthusiasm for the potential alliance," I offer.

"Possible," she acknowledges. "I would need to scan an Ithtorian male who is ready to mate before I could determine the meaning of the elevated heat levels I noted in Councilor Devri's anatomy while you were speaking."

Heh. I don't see us being offered that opportunity, no matter how hospitable the Ithtorians seem.

Sunday Book Share #49

I'm participating in The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer; Showcase Sunday hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea; and Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews. These  memes allow book bloggers the chance to share print and digital books they've received, and different posts and events at their blogs.

This is the last week of my school's school year and then next week, vacation! Last week was quiet for me, but it was good. I had a bad moment one day at school when we thought one of the kids in my class was having an allergic reaction but happily it was a false alarm. It's hard to believe summer is almost over. :( I've been getting out for walks after work a couple nights a week, building up my strength and endurance. I need to lose weight and I've always enjoyed walking.

Blurb from goodreads:

From the author of The Merlin Prophecy, a trilogy that Kirkus Reviews proclaimed, will “appeal to those who thrill to Game of Thrones,” the first installment in the action-packed trilogy of battles, romance, and bravery during the Dark Ages is the tale of the boy destined to become King Arthur.

The future of Britain is at stake. In the turbulent times of the Dark Ages, the despotic Uther Pendragon, High King of Celtic Britain, is nearing death, and his kingdom is being torn apart by the squabbling of minor kings. But only one man can bring the Celts together as a nation and restore peace—King Arthur.

Artorex (Arthur) doesn’t yet seem like the great man he will grow into. We meet him as a shy, subservient twelve-year-old living in the foster home of Lord Ector, who took in Artorex as a babe to protect him from murderous kin. Life has been unremarkable for the lad within the bosom of Ector’s family. That is, until the arrival of three influential men who arrange for Arthur to be taught the martial skills of the warrior: blade and shield, horse and fire, pain and bravery. Little does Artorex know that these three men—one of whom is Merlin—secretly hope that one day he will take Uther’s crown and restore peaice to Britain.

As the years pass, Artorex becomes a war chieftain, wins many battles, and starts a family with a beautiful, strong woman. But if he is to fulfill his destiny and become the High King of the Britons, Artorex must find the dying king’s hidden crown and sword. Will Artorex be able to leave his family, find the precious weapons, lead the attack against the Saxons, and ultimately prove himself worthy of Uther’s crown?

Interview with Dr. Joe Wenke, author of "You Got to be Kidding!"

Today's interview is with Dr. Joe Wenke, who wrote a satire on the Bible, "You Got To Be Kidding Me!" It's in my TBR and sooner or later I'll get it read and reviewed. I was a philosophy and religion major at college and I'm a religious liberal so this book calls to me.

JOE WENKE is an outspoken and articulate LGBTQ rights activist. He is the founder and publisher of Trans Ăśber, a publishing company with a focus on LBGTQ rights, free thought and promoting equality for all people.  Wenke is the author of Mailer’s America and You Got to be Kidding! The Cultural Arsonist's Satirical Reading of the Bible. His next book, Papal Bull: An Ex-Catholic Calls Out the Catholic Church, will be published this fall along with his first novel, The Talk Show.

Cat Thursday - Cats as Coffee Tables

Welcome to the weekly meme hosted by The True Book Addict that celebrates cats; their foibles and humorousness and the joy they bring. You can join in by posting a favorite LOL cat pic you made or came across, cat art or share with us pics of your own felines, then post your link up at The True Book Addict

So last week I talked about how my cat Goof wants to lie, or sit, where he wants and doesn't care what's in his way. If my cell phone, kindle or remote are where he wants to be, he just plops on top. I can't count the number of times I've put my hand underneath him to root around, looking for my missing object. Somehow, my four person couch is never big enough for myself and one cat so I often, umm, put Goof to work as a coffee table and put my phone, book, etc. on top of him. :D He's generally pretty tolerant but this cat in the pic below? Yeah, that one is plotting revenge. :P

Excerpt from Bama Bride by Joan Chandler & GC Giveaway

My first excerpt of the week is from a contemporary romance, "Bama Bride", by Joan Chandler. To celebrate its release, she's having a book blitz with excerpts and a giveaway.

Joan Chandler is a Florida native who has lived in the Deep South all of her life. She is married with two children who are her pride and joy. She lives a double life of sorts, holding down a nine-to-five job during the day, and writing steamy romance at night—often with her black cat curled up in her arms as she types.

When she’s not spending her spare time working on her next novel, she loves to go camping, sharing girls’ night out with her friends, walking her two dogs, and watching college football.
