Welcome to my first Charity Sunday post of the year! This is a monthly blog hop founded by author Lisabet Sarai at her blog, Beyond Romance. The idea is to support a charity, or non-profit. For each comment other than mine on this post, over the next 30 days, I will donate $2 to my local Habitat for Humanity office. So, five comments equals $10; ten comments equals $20, etc. I'll cap it off at $40 this month; next month, with a different charity, may differ.
I've been a supporter of Habitat for Humanity for over 20 years. I donated money for years but never got involved until my church joined a local build. I've since stayed involved. They work with families to provide safe, decent affordable housing and also to provide emergency repairs. They also work around the world, building homes after disasters. You can contribute in many ways and you don't ever have to set foot on a construction site if you don't want to. I've worked on site, in the local office, and at community events.
I believe that people deserve decent affordable housing and without losing their dignity. Habitat for Humanity helps provide that. They work with families to build homes; the families work on the house, providing sweat equity. It also gives the families a stronger sense of ownership and a deeper emotional investment. Additionally, Habitat provides practical assistance, including classes on budgeting and finance to help ensure successful ownership.
Check out the national organization's website for more information, then check the site to see if they have a regional office near you. You can contribute money, time, and/or skills.
Have you ever volunteered with Habitat? Had you heard of them before today?

DeleteThis is wonderful! The state of homelessness in this country is much too high, particularly with veterans. Thanks for shining the light on such a worthy cause. Hugs, RO
