Excerpt #7:

Back in Grand Bank, Windflower was still worried about Sheila. But he had more to deal with right now. When he came out of the café, the tiny flakes were growing larger and more plentiful by the minute. In the short distance from the Mug-Up to the Grand Bank detachment, his Jeep collected a full coating of the white stuff. He pulled into the parking lot just before his younger Corporal slid and swerved his own vehicle into the parking space next to him.

“Hey, Sarge,” said Tizzard as both men brushed off their hats and coats in the small detachment vestibule. “It looks like we’re in for a big one. Forecast has been revised to twenty-five centimetres.” The duo waved good morning to Betsy Molloy, the administrative assistant who was fully engaged with someone at the other end of her telephone headset.

“You could be right,” said Windflower. “Mayor Sinnott is making the same prediction. I guess we should call everybody in for the night shift. Who’s on days?”

“Evanchuk and Fortier are on now and MacDonald is due for the overnighter,” said Tizzard. “I’ll get Fortier to go home now so he can come back this evening and relieve Evanchuk.”

“Can you also find out what’s happening in Marystown?” asked Windflower.

“Sure thing, boss,” said Tizzard as he left his Sergeant at the entrance to his office.
