January's Balancing the Books with Bea

Inspired by Fantasy Is More Fun and The Geeky Blogger's Book Blog, I decided to start tracking my book expenses this year. I'll do a wrap up post at the end of each month.

I've given myself $10 real money each month to spend on books, whether for myself, as gifts, or blog giveaways. "Real money" being cash from my bank account as opposed to gift cards and store credits. I am counting money spent to ship giveaways and Paperbackswap.com books. Books from my personal shelves, borrowed from the library or a friend, and books received for review do not count against my purchases.

Cash - $120
Amazon Gift Cards - $105.80

Assassin by Angela Addams

So, for the month I spent $30.07 in gift cards and cash and 2 Paperbackswap.com credits for 10 books plus I got 7 books from the library, 13 for review, 13 freebies and 1 that I won. I also read 5 of my own books and 2 that I edited. I did go slightly over my cash goal for the month but I.m still in good shape overall.

    1. It's great but I'm sad that now we have to pay a fee to use the site.

  2. I'm trying my best not to buy any new books, just read the ones I already have. "Trying" is the key word here ;)

  3. I'm trying my best to limit my spend. I want to have extra money to spend at RT in May. I need to look to see what I spent in January. I know I bought a few $0.99 books, but not many.

  4. I love Paperbackswap though I'm not sure what I think about the fee. I just paid my gold member dues a week or two ago and now I'm not sure if I have to pay the full amount on top of the dues.Confusing. I'm impressed by how on top of all this you are. I'm lucky if I can remember week to week!

  6. I'm so jealous of how much you have in Giftcards! I think it's great to keep track of book spending as it can really add up to a lot of money.
