I had a great Christmas, how was yours? We had a houseful of relatives. My dad's overall health is poor and the Alzheimer's keeps stealing away parts of him but I'm also seeing some different parts of him. Let's just say he's lost some of his social inhibitions :P Most of the time he knew who I was but when he would call me by the wrong name, I just went with it. I didn't see any need to correct or further confuse him. One sibling couldn't make it but the rest were there. I also got to see my BIL for the first time since his health crisis last year. While he's still not fully recovered, he's come a long way and looked and sounded great. I gave him some of my books and we discussed authors.
It was pretty funny in the mornings and evenings, as we'd sit around taking our pills and doing our meds. We'd compare pills and joke about trading. My niece, who's 27, was the only one not taking a daily medicine. :D While I had a wonderful time and enjoyed being with my family, it's good to be home. I arrived back home yesterday afternoon and my travels going and coming were smooth, just a few minor bumps.
Thanks to my niece, I have a new tool for keeping commenters on the blog and trolls on twitter and facebook behaving themselves:
Heh, now that's a fun toy!

Odd, interesting, or funny search phrases leading to the blog: Aaaand, the erotic word searches were back. :D "erotica excerpts threesome", "excerpts threesomes", "sexks", and "sri lanka erotic painting art" led the way. In the non-erotic category, we had "kindle origami case 2014" and "new releases 2015 nora roberts". :)

LOL what a fun toy! I could use one of those in real life. lol Glad yall had a great Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a fun toy though the cats don't agree. :D
DeleteDon't hit me with that!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you saw your dad and it must've been bittersweet. At least YOU remember this holiday for him. I can't help but LOL about the pills conference, I feel the same way when I talk to my cousins. We used to chat about shook now we're trading parenting tips and shit.
Happy new year Bea!
It won't hurt! Much :P
DeleteYeah, the rituals and things we share definitely change as we get older.
Happy New Year to you Braine!
That Bomper is hilarious. Sounds like you had a fun holiday.
ReplyDeleteI did; I hope you had a good holiday.
DeleteI could use that thing on my kids. It would be good to keep them in line :)
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother has dementia, we just had her 92nd birthday and she was so happy we were there to celebrate with her but the next day she didn't really remember but I do and that is what counts. Just like this will be a great memory for you.
I hope you have a fantastic week Bea and Happy New Year!
Love the Bomper! I'll behave I swear! The comment about the pills made me laugh. Every time we get together with my dad's family everyone compares Blood Pressure med stories. Sounds like you had a nice holiday and you got some interesting books. Have a great week and a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletePlease don't hit me with that. It's sad when our parents get to that point. The Amazon Cards and B & N cards are always great.

I'm glad you had time to spend with your family.
ReplyDeleteGift cards are the best gifts especially when they are book related :)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
How I wish that kind of toy worked with the internet!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to fully enjoy Christmas and your family, even if your dad called the wrong name sometimes. I actually do that already - and I'm only in my 40s, so that might just be a parent thing...
Gift cards are awesome, you can choose your own books, but they're still from the person who wanted to give you a gift.
All the best for 2015, Bea! Health, happiness, love, success, and of course lots of great books.

Sounds like wonderful Christmas overall, Bea! You seem to be dealing well with your dad's Alzheimer's and I think it's great that you're able to "go with the flow" when he forgets things. I'm also glad to hear that your BIL is doing better. I had to chuckle over the mental image of you all sitting around taking your pills, though. We've hit that age, haven't we? Of the 5 of us at my parents' house, only our daughter Robin doesn't take daily meds (vitamins don't count, right?)
ReplyDeleteI love your new toy - what a fun gag gift!
Welcome home, and may you have a blessed and very happy new year!
How cute, I love what your niece got you! Enjoy your new books and have a great New Year!
ReplyDeleteStormi
Sorry about your Dad. My mom is kind of losing her memory - not from Alzheimers but just age and not paying attention. A frind has frontal lobe dementia -- talk about loss of social barriers. There are none.
ReplyDeleteBeing between generations is tough.
Have a Happy New Year in any event.
I love gift cards! I got some, too, and it's like having another Christmas, since I now get to plan how to spend them.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful holiday...love those toys!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I wish I would have gotten some gift cards! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI might need to borrow that hammer from time to time :) And I'm glad you could look on the light side of taking the meds and laughing at it. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas! Have fun spending those vouchers :)
ReplyDeleteNo trading of meds and do not play poker using them as chips. lol I'm glad you had a great Christmas. It's always nice to visit family, but like Dorothy said, there's no place like home, right? :) Happy New Year, Bea!
ReplyDeleteAwesome news with gift card.-- hope you have happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas spent with family sounds lovely, I'm sorry to hear about the health problems, it can be hard.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win!
Have a great week. happy reading & all the best for the New Year!
