InkWolf Press, new indie publisher, now open for business

Inkwolf Press is a small press that YA author J. A. Campbell, who has written guest posts and reviews on here and whose books I've reviewed, created with three friends: S. N. Holl, D. F. Paul, and Allie O’Connor. Their intention is to publish their shorter works of fiction, novellas and short stories and even possibly some poetry. Right now they have one novella available, "Doc, Vampire-Hunting Dog" by J.A. Campbell. However they have two more projects close to completion, a Steampunk novella and an Urban Fantasy novella.

J.A. is the publisher, formatter, owner of the business and is a traditionally published author of several fantasy novels and short stories. S. N. Holl is an author and graphic artist, D. F. Paul is an author, poet, and our line editor. Allie O’Connor is a writer, editor and horse trainer.

One of Inkwolf Press's goals is to be able to sell their works directly, digitally, and in print for those we send to the printing press. Their online store is now up and running and accepts payments through PayPal so everyone is protected.

They are running a fundraiser for the WOLF Sanctuary, a rescue and education sanctuary for wolves and wolf-dog crosses in Fort Collins, CO. From July, 1, 2012 until October, 31st, 2012 J.A. will donate half of the proceeds on all sales of "Doc, Vampire-Hunting Dog" to the WOLF Sanctuary. They, like so many, were evacuated by the High Park Fire in June and the ongoing costs of running a sanctuary never go away. You can help by buying a copy of one of Doc’s stories.

Inkwolf Press is not open to submissions at this time.

New Fantasy Anthology Open For Submissions

Along the lines of yesterday's post about a new anthology, today we have another indie pub seeking horror and dark fantasy submissions. This time it's Anachron Press.

"Day of Demons" will be a collection of dark fantasy stories that deal with the effects of ‘demons’ over the course of a single day. This could be literally a large, flaming demon wreaking havoc upon a city/town/village, or it could be an internal ‘demon’ that is troubling your character. The key thing is that your story should take place over the time span of a single day.
While they like it dark, they aren’t opposed to all areas of fantasy. They are interested in the epic/high fantasy tropes as much as they are of the dark urban fantasy.
The deadline for submissions is March 1st. 2012 and word count is 4k to 6k.

New Press: Ink Babes

I'm a little late with the news but there's a new indie pub looking for submissions. I'm acquainted with some of the people behind it, we've chatted online. They are currently seeking submissions. Here's the info they were kind enough to send me when I asked:

Who the heck are the Ink Babes?
We’re a bunch of wild and crazy gals looking to mix up some dark magic through the power of words. Singularly, we are Lisa Forget, Tammy Crosby and Patricia Hollett. Collectively we are the InkBabes. Our love of writing and passion for reading good stories is something we all share and so we decided to do something as writers, for writers, and most important of all, for readers!

What the heck is Bleeding Ink Anthology?
It is to be a compilation of mixed pieces in a refreshing format. We set up our blog/website as a place for writers to get to know us and to come together to share ideas and be inspired to pen some dark tales.
We want the Bleeding Ink anthology to be a little darkling, creatively filled with a variety of pieces including elements such as; vampires, supernatural beings, witches, werewolves, ghosts, necromancers, fairies, death, blood, gore, creatures, apocalypse, and anything else with dark undertones. All are welcome to submit their work to Bleeding Ink Anthology.
Currently we are accepting submissions for the following:
Short Story – 1,000 – 5,000
Flash Fiction – Under 1,000 words
50 Word Stories
Prose, Poetry & Micropoetry

Each story must each include either dark, twisted, supernatural, fantasy, frightening, freaky or even shocking and funny elements. But the MOST important factor of all; the piece must give the reader pause. We’re looking for stories that make us want to tell all our friends about reading it because it was just THAT good! It can be as simple as 6 words, or as complex as you can get using the full 5k allowance.
Pop in and check us out, we’re waiting for your words.

~May your muses be dark and your pen be bold!~

I'm not sure at this point if they are publishing in print, digital, or both, and I'm also uncertain if they will be publishing other books. I believe that currently this is the only one planned. But the anthology sounds interesting, if you're a writer it might be worth your time to submit.

Armchair BEA and nurturing relationships

Continuing with Armchair BEA, today's topic is nurturing relationships. How, as a blogger and book reviewer, do I do that? To be honest, I think that's an area where I could probably improve. I enjoy, mostly, the socialization part - chatting on twitter or via IM's, exchanging emails, but I'm not a social butterfly and sometimes drop the ball.

Twitter, which I initially resisted joining (Silly Bea!) has been a great medium for me - I've met and connected with other bloggers and reviewers, editors, authors and publishing houses. I've gotten chatty with Moira Rogers, who is really two people, Donna and Bree; it's mostly Bree that I chat with and she's wonderfully silly, plus very, very generous. I've also gotten chatty with authors Sierra Dean and Krista D Ball; we get silly but we also talk about book reviews, blind drunk monkeys, books, and authors who behave badly in public.

Twitter has also led me to read authors that I hadn't been before, and many authors will seek out reviewers by tweeting, which has led me to several ARC's. I follow many publishers on twitter, which I find to be an easy way to keep current on trends, hot topics, new books, etc.

I also chat with other bloggers on twitter, and those conversations are also a blend of book-related and personal.  Has_bookpushers, of the Book Pushers site, was one of the people responsible not only for my joining twitter but also for becoming a revewer and blogger. She is, as I like to call her, the Lady of the Links; she has an almost supernatural knack for links. They range from links for wooden dildos to a TARDIS shaped murphy bed to articles about movie casting and hot new books. She has a wicked sense of humor and is knowledgable, and opinionated, about many things.

Other fun bloggers I chat with sometimes are @BookaliciousPam, one of Armchair BEA's organizers; @jacabur1 who has been supportive, and @Susi_Sunshine, who I work with on the Book Lovers Inc blog, she's just crazy. :D

Building relationships with publishers has been slow going for me but I'm getting there. I've made some contacts through the Book Lovers Inc site and through an awesome book blog collective site, Book Blogs. That is an area I need to focus on and one that will be a goal for me for the remainder of this year.
