BEA'S BOOK NOOK "I can't imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once." C. S. Lewis “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” ― Oscar Wilde

The Deputy's Redemption by Delores Fossen: INTERVIEW and PLAY LIST

Today I have a short interview with romance author Delores Fossen and her playlist for her new book, "The Deputy's Redemption". I'm a sucker for a story that involves a man in uniform, they're just hard to resist.

Delores is a USA Today bestselling author with a family tree that includes Texas cowboys, Choctaw and Cherokee Indians, a Louisiana pirate, and a Scottish rebel who battled side by side with William Wallace. With ancestors like that, it's easy to understand why Delores, a Texan and former Air Force captain, feels as if she were genetically predisposed to writing romances. Along the way to fulfilling her DNA destiny, Delores married an Air Force top gun who just happens to be of Viking descent. With all those romantic bases covered, she doesn’t have to look too far for inspiration.

How Bloggers Have Helped My Writing Career by Vicky Dreiling

Today, it's my pleasure to have historical romance author Vicky Dreiling on the blog. I'm not a big fan of historical romance but I've read several of her books and enjoy talking with her on Twitter. It's been a few years since she's been on the Nook. A while back, I asked some authors to write about their experiences with bloggers and today we have Vicky's post and information about her forthcoming book, "What A Devilish Duke Desires".

Vicky Dreiling is a confirmed historical romance junkie and Anglophile. Frequent business trips to the UK allowed her to indulge her passion for all things Regency England. Bath, Stonehenge, and Spencer House are among her favorite places. She is, however, truly sorry for accidentally setting off a security alarm in Windsor Castle. That unfortunate incident led her British colleagues to nickname her “Trouble.”

Bon Appétit and a Book - Giveaway, Recipes, and Romance with Authors Andrea Laurence & Abby Green

It's winter where I am and cold. Cocoa and comfort food are my staples (I have a mug of cocoa as I'm typing this). When the opportunity arose to have a couple of Harlequin's authors provide some yummy recipes I happily said yes. Now, I'm not much for cooking. I like it simple; the microwave and toaster oven are two of my favorite kitchen appliances. But I enjoy looking at recipes, these look delicious, and I think I'll share the chili recipe with my sisters; they like chili and they actually LIKE to cook. Weirdos. :P

Originally, I thought I'd do a separate post but these two recipes seem like a good combo so I decided to put them into one post. After the recipes, you'll find info on the books and authors, and a giveaway.

Karen Harper Discusses Where Authors Get Their Ideas & A Giveaway

I do love me some romantic suspense. One of my sisters is a big Karen Harper fan and first told me about her several years ago. I'd had her on my authors-to-try list ever since. I actually have book two in the Cold Creek trilogy, "Broken Bonds", sitting on my kindle, waiting to be read and reviewed.  I know, a real shocker that I haven't gotten to it yet, huh? :D And book one is on my wish list (cuz I am the QUEEN of reading out of order). So when the chance to be part of the tour for book three arose, I jumped all over it.

Okay, enough of my rambling. On with the show! Get your drink, shove the cats off the couch, and enjoy. :)

Christmas Trees - Live or Fake? A Guest Post by Jessica Scott & An iPad Mini Giveaway

The party continues! I have a guest post from Jessica on Christmas rituals. We all have them; well, we all have rituals for holidays that we celebrate whichever holiday that may be. I could relate to this one as my father and mother's Christmas tree rituals were different from later Christmas tree rituals of my father and stepmother.

Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she's a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.

National Animal Welfare Week - A Guest Post & An Excerpt from Doghouse by L.A. Kornetsky

It's Animal Welfare Week! Well, according to some calendars, October 6th -12th is Animal Welfare Week. However, when I tried Googling it, I found little solid information. So I have a few links for you concerning proper welfare for pets and a link to a facebook page on Animal Welfare Week, although it hasn't been updated since 2012.

Pet care on the ASPCA site
Animals and resources on the Humane Society site

Animals are living beings; they need care, time, and respect. In my not so humble opinion, you shouldn't have animals, be they pets or working animals, if you are unable or unwilling to care for them. If you need help or information, there are resources: friends and co-workers, boos, the web and the sites mentioned above as well as many others.

Over the summer, I acquired some beta fish, despite knowing next to nothing about them. But I've asked acquaintances, I've Googled, and I've asked questions at several pet shops. Now, I am able to care for them properly, but for a while I was asking questions non-stop. Having brought them home, it's my responsibility to see they are properly cared for.

And now for something a little lighter - I have an excerpt from a new mystery, "Doghouse" by L.A. Kornetsky starring a cat and a dog and their humans trying to solve a mystery. It's the third book in the Gin and Tonic mystery series.

Guest Post - The Story Behind Two Empty Thrones by C.H. Maclean

Welcome to my stop on MacLean's virtual tour. I have a guest post and excerpt for you today so make yourself comy, and enjoy!

To young C. H. MacLean, books were everything: mind-food, friends, and fun. They gave the shy middle child’s life color and energy. Amazingly, not everyone saw them that way. Seeing a laundry hamper full of books approach her, the librarian scolded C. H. for trying to check them all out. “You’ll never read that many before they expire!” C. H. was surprised, having shown great restraint only by keeping a list of books to check out next time. Thoroughly abashed, C. H. waited three whole days after finishing that lot before going back for more.

With an internal world more vivid than the real one, C. H. was chastised for reading in the library instead of going to class. “Neurotic, needs medical help,” the teacher diagnosed. C. H.’s father, a psychologist, just laughed when he heard. “She’s just upset because those books are more challenging than her class.” C. H. realized making up stories was just as fun as reading, and harder to get caught doing. So for a while, C. H. crafted stories and characters out of wisps and trinkets, with every toy growing an elaborate personality.

The Dirty Words War - A Guest Post by Angela Addams

I've known, virtually-speaking, Angie for years, We met on Kelley Armstrong's now defunct message board and I've reviewed some of her earlier works. Recently, she signed with Samhain for a paranormal erotic romance series and the first book, "Cursed", released in July. I have a review, excerpt, and giveaway post here and in this post, Angie talks about the many different words and expressions we use when talking about our sex organs. Naughty language ahead!
