The Long Way Home by Jessica Scott: Giveaway, Excerpt, Trailer & Cover Reveal!

Jessica Scott has a new book out today, a non-fiction. "The Long Way Home" is a follow up to "To Iraq and Back" which was a compilation of blog posts about her time as soldier in Iraq while this one takes a more personal approach. You can read this one without having read "To Iraq and Back".

I love the cover; the juxtaposition of war and family, drab helmet and cute toy. It perfectly summarizes the jobs and challenges that Jessica, and other soldiers, face both during their tour of duty and when they returrn.

Blurb from the author ~
My name is Jessica Scott. I am a soldier. I am a mother. I am a wife.

Bestselling novelist Jessica Scott takes you on her first person journey home from war.

In 2009, Army second lieutenant Jessica Scott deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. She thought deploying was the hardest thing she'd ever do.

She was wrong.
This is the story of a mother coming home from war and learning to be a mom again. This is the story of a lieutenant making the grade and becoming a company commander. This is the journey of a writer persevering through a hundred rejections. This is the story of  a soldier learning to be a woman again. This is the story of a soldier learning to ask for help.
This is the journey as it happened, without commentary.

This is her blog. There are many blogs from the Iraq war, but this one is hers.

Publisher: Tormia Creatives
Genre: Non-fiction, Memoir
Format: ebook, paperback
Length: 343 pages
Release Date: March 18, 2013

Book Trailer for SENSHI by Cole Gibsen

                     SENSHI

Is Rileigh’s only hope for salvation to team up with her sworn enemy?

Rileigh Martin just wants to do normal teenage things, like go on romantic dates with Kim, her boyfriend and past life soul mate. Although that seems impossible when she’s the reincarnation of Senshi, a fifteenth century samurai warrior. After a ninja ambush leaves her unable to control her ki powers, Rileigh vows to get them under control before her friends lose more than their eyebrows. But when Kim leaves her for his past life betrothed and the other samurai stop talking to her, Rileigh realizes she doesn’t have any friends left to worry about.

As the ninja attacks increase, Rileigh learns that the reincarnated kunoichi, a powerful female ninja, wants to kill her in order to reclaim her destructive powers. Alone and with increasingly unstable powers, Rileigh’s only offer of help comes from Whitley, her sworn past life enemy. Rileigh knows she doesn’t stand a chance against the kunoichi by herself, but Whitley’s sudden allegiance might be hiding a much deadlier agenda.

The Devil's Thief Book Trailer

The Devil's Thief by Samantha Kane releases soon, on November 12th, so Random House kindly sent out this book trailer to pique out interest. You may recall that I recently interviewed Ms. Kane and I also posted an excerpt.

What did you think? I didn't love it, I wish they had used real people in it and the music maybe could have been a little sassier but I think it gives a good idea of what the book is about.

Lori Foster has a new book that released in September. "Run The Risk" is the first in her new romantic suspense series, Love Undercover. On the 18th, I'll have a short Q&A with Lori and a brief excerpt from the book. In the meantime, here's a trailer to whet your appetite.

Excerpt & Trailer for The Inn At Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber

You may recall that last month Random House and I did an ARC giveaway for "The Inn At Rose Harbor" by Debbie Macomber. The book is out now (and I have a copy waiting to be read). Never read Macomber? Read her but not sure if you want to invest time or money in this one? Check out the book trailer and excerpt below; they may help you decide. If you have read her before, this book is the start of a new series that is an offshoot of her Cedar Cove series. I believe that you can read this, without having read any of the others.

Excerpt & Trailer for The Last Victim by Karen Robards

I'm a Robards fan, have been for about 15 years. I first discovered her at my library when I had pneumonia and needed reading material. I've been reading her ever since. She has a new book out now that's a twist on her previous books. Her previous books have been romances, some of them romantic suspense. Her new book, "The Last Victim" is a romantic suspense with a paranormal twist to it. It came out on August 7th and I'll be reviewing it later this month. In the meantime, check out this book trailer and excerpt, see if it's of interest to you.

Enjoy!

Excerpts From Romances Releasing Today!

Thanks to Random House, I have three, yes THREE, excerpts. The first one is, "Home For the Summer" by Mariah Stewart. This one sounds like one I'd enjoy very much. There's also a book trailer.

Book Blurb:

Some of Lucy Sinclair’s best days were those spent growing up in small town St. Dennis—working at the family inn and enjoying summers filled with swimming, sailing, tennis, and the company of Clay Madison, her best friend. But Lucy’s darkest day, the one that shattered her innocence with violence and fear, also happened in St. Dennis. And the town she once loved became the place she gladly left behind—along with the terrible secret she’s kept for twenty years.

And when Lucy comes back to town to plan a celebrity wedding at the Sinclair family inn, she and Clay reconnect, and find themselves reevaluating their long-sleeping friendship that could blossom into something deeper. Like a bookend to those distant childhood days, this summer will be Lucy’s chance to finally confront her hidden pain, make peace with the past, and plan her own whole new future.

Next up is a historical romance, "A Gentleman Undone" by Cecelia Grant.

Book Blurb:

A seductive beauty turns the tables on a gentleman gaming for the guiltiest of pleasures in this rich and sensual Regency romance from beloved newcomer Cecilia Grant.

Lydia Slaughter understands the games men play—both in and out of the bedroom. Not afraid to bend the rules to suit her needs, she fleeces Will Blackshear outright. The Waterloo hero had his own daring agenda for the gaming tables of London's gentlemen's clubs. But now he antes up for a wager of wits and desire with Lydia, the streetwise temptress who keeps him at arm's length.

A kept woman in desperate straits, Lydia has a sharp mind with a head for numbers. She gambles on the sly, hoping to win enough to claim her independence. An alliance with Will at the tables may be a winning proposition for them both. But the arrangement involves dicey odds with rising stakes, sweetened with unspoken promise of fleshly delights. And any sleight of hand could find their hearts betting on something neither can afford to risk: love.

And the final excerpt is from a PNR, "When Passion Lies", by J.K. Beck.

Book Blurb:

Tiberius is a vampire dedicated to protecting his kind—and the secrets of the shadow world. Now, as his quest to become head of the Alliance draws within reach, a shattering new threat puts him to the ultimate test. It’s a nightmare of grim proportions: a dark plot to bring about the mass extermination of human and shadow alike. And it forces Tiberius to turn to the woman he loved and lost, the lover he still desires but doesn’t trust.

Caris was Tiberius’s mate for centuries—until a fateful mission changed her forever. Her tortured secrets drove her into the arms of his rival, but desperation has brought her back. As a horrifying new weapon of mass destruction is about to be unleashed, Tiberius and Caris harness the power of their immortal and passionate love. But will it be enough to battle devastating odds and a ruthless enemy with the ambition to destroy them all?

Fun New Videos for H.P. Mallory's "Witchful Thinking"

The other day I posted an excerpt from a forthcoming humorous PNR, "Witchful Thinking", by H.P. Mallory. It goes on sale in a week, on February 28th. Mallory's first few books were self-published but she was recently picked up by Random House. As part of Random's celebration of "Witchful"s release, there are three zany videos up on YouTube. Each video is a mini, light-hearted lesson being a witch. Check them out and see what you think.

Lesson #1

Lesson #2

Lesson #3

There are two more books coming shortly: Something Witchy This Way Comes, July 31, 2012 and The Witch is Back on September 25th, 2012.

Hades Strikes Back! A New SIRENZ Book Trailer

Well, Hades, god of the underworld, is not easily pushed around. Remember the book trailer I posted for SIRENZ? The one created by Sirenz authors Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman? Hades did NOT like it, and came up with his own. Go here to see both versions. I like both versions but you can definitely tell that Hades has a perverse sense of humor, his version has a loud crunch during the train scene.

SINS OF THE SON Book Trailer

Linda Poitevin, UF author and author of The Grigori Legacy series, has a new book trailer for book two, Sins of the Sons. It's up at YouTube, you can view it here.

So, what do you think? The music is quite ominous and the graphics, I thought, were eyecatching.
