Hello! Come on in and get comfortable. Today I have an excerpt and a giveaway for a romantic suspense, Misfortune Justified, by Lori Matthews. It's a stand alone story in a shared world series, the Brotherhood Protectors. Read the excerpt, then if you like it and you are in the USA, enter to win a paperback or ebook copy of the book.
Lori grew up in a house filled with books and readers. Some of her fondest memories are of reading in the same room with her mother and sisters, arguing about whose turn it was to make tea. No one wanted to put their book down! She was introduced to romance because of her mom’s habit of leaving books all over the house. One day she picked one up. She still remembers the cover. It was a Harlequin by Janet Daily. Little did she know at the time that it would set the stage for her future. Sge went on to discover mystery novels. Agatha Christie was her favorite. And then suspense with Wilber Smith and Ian Fleming.
She loved the thought of combining her favorite genres, and during high school, she attempted to write her first romantic suspense novel. She wrote the first four chapters and then exams happened and that was the end of that. She desperately hopes that book died a quiet death somewhere in a computer recycling facility.
A few years later, (okay, quite a few) after two degrees, a husband and two kids, she attended a workshop in Tuscany that lit that spark for writing again. She has been pounding the keyboard ever since, in New Jersey, where she lives with her children—who are thrilled with her writing as it means they get to eat more pizza—and her very supportive husband.

Rhys narrowed his eyes. "Who exactly are you protecting?"
"Sunny."
Rhys raised an eyebrow. "Uh, isn't she the woman you left in the dust when you took off?"
"Yeah." Hudson grimaced. "She's the one."
"No offense, but why does she want you to look after her?"
"She probably doesn't," he admitted. "She's in a bit of trouble."
"What kind of trouble is she in?"
"Well..." He winced. "She allegedly killed a guy we went to high school with."
Rhys's eyebrows went skyhigh. "Jesus. Are you sure you want to do this?"
"No, but there's no way Sunny's guilty. I've already started poking around, trying to figure out what happened, but I'm not getting anywhere. I've also heard rumors that Sunny's being harassed. I know I can help with that at least, but if I go to her directly and ask to help, I'm pretty sure she'd tell me to go to hell."

"What did you do?" Rhys asked in a way that telegraphed he thought the job had all the hallmarks of a bad idea.
"I called Hank and asked him for a favor. He approached Sunny's lawyer and told him he'd heard about her troubles. Hank offered help, and her lawyer said yes."
"So, you volunteered for a job--correct me if I'm wrong--you're not even getting paid for and asked a favor from a virtual stranger to make it happen so you can help Sunny. Seems like a whole lot of effort for something that's likely to go south."

To enter, please answer the question in the next sentence, and leave an email address where I can reach you if you win. The question: Do you think Hudson made a good decision not to tell Sunny the truth about his involvement? Why or why not?
Good luck!
I only think hiding it is a good idea for romantic suspense. IRL I'd beat the snot out of anyone who 'loves me' but hid huge things like that from me.
