Friday Memes: Cursed by Thomas Wheeler and Illustrated by Frank Miller

I'm participating in two Friday book memes, Book Beginnings On Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice.

Every Friday, share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

For the Friday 56, grab a book, any book. Turn to Page 56, or 56% on your ereader. If you have to improvise, that's okay. Find a snippet, short and sweet. Post it, and add the url to your post at the link here.

I received this for review last fall and still haven't gotten to it, but I'm planning on it. It's an Arthurian legend retelling from the POV of a young Nimue and illustrated by the amazing Frank Miller.

From her hiding place in the straw pile and through eyes filled with tears, Nimue thought Father Carden looked like a spirit of light.

The quote is from page 56%  in the hardcover ARC.

He unwrapped the specimen. As usual, Merlin betrayed no emotion. The infant was probably a week or two old, withered and pale green from rot, its small arms curled, tiny fists balled. Its head was divided evenly into two faces, though each shared a misshapen eye just above the two noses.

What book are you embarking on? Please share in the comments.

  1. I don't know if there is an emoji that accurately represents by face right now. I'm both mortified and intrigued.

    1. Yeah, that was my reaction. Clearly this will not be a light and fluffy book.

    1. They're black and white but pretty awesome. Miller was part of the appeal for this book.
