I'm participating in two Friday book memes, Book Beginnings On Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice.
Every Friday, share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
For the Friday 56, grab a book, any book. Turn to Page 56, or 56% on your ereader. If you have to improvise, that's okay. Find a snippet, short and sweet. Post it, and add the url to your post at the link here.
Yep, that's an attention grabber. Mystery writers seem to have a knack for drawing you right in.

As I was perusing my Goodreads shelves I realized I still hadn't read this so I requested it from my library and am now reading it. Baldacci is a fave author of mine and I liked the first three books in this series. Sadly, no more have come out in this series since this published in 2016. He's moved onto another series, which I'm also enjoying.
Paul Rogers was waiting for them to come and kill him.

Thanks, and thanks for visiting! :)
DeleteI have enjoyed some books by Baldacci...now I want to learn more about this story. Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt was complicated but good.
DeleteStrong beginning for sure. My read isn't nearly as weighty. The Elephant's Girl. #middlegrade
ReplyDeleteNot weighty exactly but it could have been if Baldacci had gone deeper into the topics.
DeleteYup, you definitely grabbed me with those snippets. Happy weekend, stay safe!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
DeleteGlad you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThose are great excerpts. I definitely want to know more! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThey do grab your attention!
DeleteSounds good.
ReplyDeleteIt was. :)
DeleteI'm also a Baldacci fan. I've just started reading him so I have plenty of backlist to read first.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
Huuuuuuuge backlist. You'll be bsuy, lol.
DeleteSounds good! I've read a couple of Baldacci books, but I cannot for the life of me remember the titles. :)
ReplyDeleteHe's written so many it's easy to mix them up. :D
DeleteYes, if you are going to murder someone, best that you remember who. Hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, memory wasn't the issue. :)
DeleteHave a good weekend!
A great author, this sounds just what I'd expect from him! Intriguing line. :)
ReplyDeleteHere is my Friday Post! Stay safe!
He does write some intriguing lines. :) Thanks for visiting, be safe!
DeleteI love your side comments - such a bummer when the murder the wrong person, indeed! LOL Thanks for sharing - sounds like a compelling read.
ReplyDeleteHeh, thanks! Nice to find someone who appreciates my humor. :D
ReplyDeleteBaldacci knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. Reading the blurbs, I can't tell whether the protagonist is Rogers or Puller, which is also not unusual for his books. The good guys are as likely to be killers as the bad guys.
ReplyDeleteHe really does. I'd say both Rogers and Puller are protagonists and I agree with your killers comment.
DeleteI really need to read this author. This 56 really has me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteHe writes good mysteries and solid characterizations. Give him a try.
DeleteWaiting to be killed. Eek! My Friday Quotes
ReplyDeleteYeah, imagine that. Eeep. What an awful feeling.
DeleteWhat a beginning! I think that every good mystery novel captures you from the very first sentence.
ReplyDeleteKonna @ The Reading Armchair
Agreed. :)
DeleteAnother author who has been on my TBR for years and years but somehow I've yet to read anything by him.
ReplyDeleteHe has an extensive backlist for you to dig into. 😊
DeleteI have only read one Baldacci book, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I should make time to read more of his work. This one sounds good. I hope you are enjoying this one! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy it, thanks!
DeleteI have really enjoyed all of the Baldacci books that I have read so far. I haven't tried this series yet and will have to add it to my wishlist!
ReplyDeleteI really like this series and wish it weren't over.
DeleteI always love these posts. So much fun!
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm glad!
