Blurb from goodreads:

Penny and Laci are headed for a mundane summer vacation until a mysterious journal unlocks a portal to another world and they find themselves face to face with a baby dragon.

In an attempt to send their new acquisition back to its home, the girls, along with two neighborhood friends, get sucked through to a mythical world. In this land, they must battle foes seen and unseen, pushing them to both their physical and mental limits. If they fail to stop the powers they’ve unleashed, it could not only destroy this strange world, but also annihilate their home.

Steph's Thoughts:

I chose this book because it had one of my favorite words in the blurb. Dragon. I love dragons even more than zombies, so I said "gimme".

I was not disappointed at all. This book is adorable. It is perfect for middle school kids. The story moves quickly so they will not get bored with it. I am used to reading some epic fantasies, so I was very surprised at the author's ability to create a vivid world without a ton of words. There is a lot of action to keep kids (and adults) entertained. There are pirates, dangerous plants, cliffs and of course, dragons.

The characters are typical kids, which made them believable as characters. I think most kids could find one of the characters to relate to.  I really related to Laci, who loves to read and always has books in her backpack. I was just like her when I was in school. Ok, who am I kidding? I am still like that as an adult.

Overall, this is a great book for kids who want to read an adventure story. I loved it! I wouldn't have minded a little more detail in some places but I am an adult and this book is meant for kids. I will definitely be buying a physical copy to put on Liam's bookshelf when he gets a little older.
