BEA'S BOOK NOOK "I can't imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once." C. S. Lewis “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.” ― Oscar Wilde

June & July's Balancing the Books with Bea

Inspired by Fantasy Is More Fun and The Geeky Blogger's Book Blog, I decided to start tracking my book expenses this year. I'll do a wrap up post at the end of each month.

I've given myself $10 real money each month to spend on books, whether for myself, as gifts, or blog giveaways. "Real money" being cash from my bank account as opposed to gift cards and store credits. I am counting money spent to ship giveaways and Paperbackswap.com books. Books from my personal shelves, borrowed from the library or a friend, and books received for review do not count against my purchases.

Holy cow, that was a lot of books, even for a two month period. Eeep. I read very few of my own books as I worked on whittling down my review pile (and yes, I have made progress despite the influx of more).

  1. Good luck with the accounting of your book money. If I received all those request books I would be happy to not spend any money, lol!

I don't receive books or book gift cards unless I win a giveaway, and luckily I won 2 this past month. I've given up Netgalley for at least the time being.

I don't track my money per se, more like tracking my purchases... trying to not download more than 3 new books a month. That is money I've set aside for "fun" since we don't go "out on the town" to the movie theater nor to eat in a nice restaurant more than a couple of times a year. I do buy used books and sometimes I get lucky and get a newly released title there too, and I am a frequent flyer at my library :) Enjoy your coming week, Bea.

    1. I wanted to track where my books came from and how much I was spending. It's been an eye-opener; I'll definitely keep this up.
