Author Faith Hunter Talks About Jane Yellowrock & A Giveaway

Today I have urban fantasy author here answering some questions about Jane Yellowrock, vampire hunter, shape-shifter, and the star of the Skinwalker books. The newest book in the series, "Broken Soul", releases next month on the 7th.

Faith Hunter, fantasy writer, was born in Louisiana and raised all over the south. The Skinwalker series, featuring Jane Yellowrock is taking off like a rocket with "Skinwalker","Blood Cross", "Mercy Blade", "Raven Cursed", "Death’s Rival", "Blood Trade" and "Black Arts". Her Rogue Mage novels, a dark, urban fantasy series - "Bloodring", "Seraphs", and "Host"—feature Thorn St. Croix, a stone mage in a post-apocalyptic, alternate reality, urban fantasy world. These novels are the basis for the role playing game, Rogue Mage.

Under the pen name Gwen Hunter, she writes action-adventure, mysteries, and thrillers. As Faith and Gwen, she has 20+ books in print in 28 countries.

Hunter fell in love with reading in fifth grade, and best loved SiFi, fantasy, and gothic. She decided to become a writer in high school, when a teacher told her she had talent. Now, she writes full-time and works full-time in a hospital lab, (for the benefits) tries to keep house, and is a workaholic with a passion for travel, jewelry making, white-water kayaking, and writing. She and her husband love to RV, traveling with their dogs to whitewater rivers all over the Southeast.

  1. ***How and where did you “meet” Jane Yellowrock?
I was sitting with [urban fantasy author] Kim Harrison and we were exploring the idea of new books and series and I bounced this new voice off of her. Then I read the first Temple Grandin book and I was hooked on the animal brain as opposed to the human brain. And I began to remember the old Tarzan movies. You know, "Me Tarzan. You Jane." And between the two events, Jane was born, with her Beast inside her.

  1. Jane is tall and badass. Was there anyone you use to picture her?
The model who poses for the cover pics for Jane is dead-on! Amy Correa Bell.
  1. Why don't you write more SEX???
My sex scenes suck. Wait… Not what I meant. (hee hee hee ~  Bea) Actually, I am very picky about sex scenes and I want them to fit who Jane is and who she is going to be. I don’t want Jane to do something that is counter to her beliefs and to her subconscious knowledge of the people around her, and what they want out of her. I want her to make a wise decision the next time she takes someone to her bed. Which she does in Broken Soul. Yes. Jane gets lucky on page. ON PAGE.

  1. Why hasn’t Jane gotten with Bruiser?
(writer gives a little cat-smile) Read Broken Soul.  (Ooo, yes! ~ Bea)

  1. What about Rick LaFleur was ever attractive to Jane?
Rick—even Rick who cheated—understood Jane, especially once he became a cat (of sorts). Rick fights crime and he always understood the fact that Jane does is a fighter of evil too, even if she is going about it via a different route. They had a lot in common, pre Paka… Though Rick is going to be an ongoing character in the new Nell Nicholson Ingram series, to debut late in 2015.

Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.

Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see….
