When Only The Best Will Do.

I was asked recently what makes up a great romance novel.

Well, a gripping start. A premise that is new and yet familiar. Buckets of sexual tension. Don’t forget a sympathetic heroine—someone we can identify with and cheer on.

But, perhaps, the most important ingredient is a fabulous hero. A man who can laugh at himself, who has wit and sex appeal and intelligence. He doesn’t need to be wealthy. But he does need to feel “unattainable” in some way.

If you count yourself as an average girl from an everyday kind of reality, how much more unattainable is a hero of royal blood? How much bigger the fairytale surrounding the joy of falling in love?

There was Prince Charming, the brave knight Tristan (James Franco, anyone?) and in The Goddess, the first book in the IDOL series, I give you Darius Vasily.

Darius is a modern-day guy with extraordinary responsibilities. Yes, he is privileged, a little out of touch with the masses, but he is determined to do the best job possible by keeping an open mind, by perseverance and following the rules. Which includes spending a week before his coronation in isolation on his kingdom’s uninhabited Aegean island…

Uninhabited, that is, except for a young woman who seems to cause no end of trouble but also intrigues him like no other.

Bending the rules, he keeps Helene Masters on as a housekeeper for the week. Naturally, things heat up and the domestic position turns into a whole lot more. And if there wasn’t an ancient fertility statue involved, as well as the thread of another ill-fated affair from a hundred years ago, maybe the story would end there. That is only the beginning!

Described as “a modern day fairy tale,” (Amazon reviews), look out for the twist at the end which ties threads together readers hadn’t known existed.

Are you a fan of romances with uber powerful heroes who also have a heart?

Blurb from the publisher:

After college graduation, Helene Masters is excited to land a job in a picturesque Aegean kingdom. Tasked with sprucing up the Prince's villa, she inadvertently finds herself trapped on the island with the sexiest man alive. Of course she has to fall for a man who is destined to only marry royalty.

Darius Vasily, Prince of Teirenias, can't figure out what pretty, but accident-prone, Helene is doing at his private estate. After dousing him in paint, she disappears inside the secret cave holding the royal family treasure—a fertility statue, but a cave-in traps them both. Now Darius has to figure out how to save them before he kills her for getting them into this mess in the first place—or gives into their amazing chemistry.

  1. No, I wouldn't want to marry a royal. I would feel like I needed to act perfectly all the time.
