So, last week I was on vacation, or more accurately, staycation. I was productive but also relaxed and read. The a/c saga continues. The repair guy showed up, looked at it, didn't even touch it, and said, "We don't work on these units." Sigh. Apparently, no one likes to work on wall units. I was pissed, especially as I'd SAID it was a wall unit when I made the appointment. It doesn't help that the unit is at least 12 years old. So, since replacing it is not in the budget, I'm looking at cheap window units.

Yeah, I utterly failed at my self-imposed bans. I read a LOT of books last week while on my staycation so I downloaded some freebies and requested some review books. Then some library holds came in, several unsolicited review books arrived on my doorstep, and I received a Kindle galley for review consideration. On the upside, my TBR shelf isn't any bigger than it was at the start of the week. Yeah, I read THAT much. :D

Did you add any books to your shelves or e-readers last week? Leave a link to your Sunday Post so I can visit you during the week.
You can't go past No limits and not request lol I have just finished reading it, looking forward to what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteThat was actually one of the unsolicited books. :D It's a maybe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
Oh, I feel for you with the a/c saga...there is nothing worse than a summer without a/c. I hope you resolve it soon!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books...I like the look of Erin's Gift.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Thanks Laurel. I'm happy that it hasn't been too hot, mostly 80's.
DeleteI liked the look of Erin's Gift too. :)
I always reward myself after reading a lot with....more books. Haha! So I totally get that! Nice that you got a good vacation, and so much reading done. XD I had a mini-one myself kind of this week and munched through a huge part of my TBR. It looks a little more manageable and I'm happy! My Sunday Post!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one. :D
DeleteI hope you get your a/c sorted out soon. Enjoy your new books, I also caved a little this week and picked up a couple too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Bea.
Sharon @ Sharon's Book Nook!
Thanks Sharon and enjoy your new books.
DeleteI can't believe your A/C still isn't working :( Summer is not my time of year and A/C is a MUST have. I hope they fix it for you soon!
ReplyDeleteThe all the cute review books, might have to look into them to see if my daughter would like them.
Have a great week Bea and Enjoy all your new reads!!
The kids books aren't out until October but if you have an account at Edelweiss, you can get them there.
DeleteWeird, I had AC issues last week too. When we had our central AC installed we sold our window units for a pittance. YOu might try your local FB Yardsale, Craiglist, etc. In the FB Yard sale you can also do an ISO (In Search Of). I am on the Sunday Post too. http://fangswandsandfairydust.com.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know FB had a yard sale area; Ill check that out, thanks.
DeleteOh no! So sorry to hear about your A/C problems. How frustrating that they weren't prepared for a wall unit after you told them that's what it was. I agree with Steph about checking FB etc for wall units. I've known people who have bought them for temporary purposed and sold them cheaply. Hope you get some cool air before it gets too hot! Since you got lots of books read this week it's okay to break the new book band plus with the A/C frustration that makes it doubly okay. Have a great week! Hope it stays cool where you are!
ReplyDeleteWhat's really frustrating is that apparently no place works on wall units. They want to bring the unit in to work on it. :(
DeleteYeah, that was mu reasoning for all the books I got. :)
You had a busy week, Bea! Sorry for your a/c drama... :(
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteI gave up on my library hold of Shattered and just went out and bought the Kindle :) We had only 1 copy between our 9 branches and I had to stare at another copy sitting on my coworker's desk waiting for her to finish "processing" it - UGH!!!! $5.99 didn't kill me ;)
ReplyDeleteWTH! "I don't work on wall units." - what do you do??? Get your nails done at the spa? What an jerk, esp. since you told them what you had!!! One star review on that company!!
I hope you finally get your system fixed this week :( Hang in there!!
I was surprised my copy came in as quickly as it did; I thought I'd have a longer wait.
DeleteYeah, I was PISSED after that visit. I said many bad words. :P
Your AC busting over the Summer is no fun! I hope you can work it out soon. Armpit sweat is no bueno LOL
ReplyDeleteAgreed about the sweat, yuck!
DeleteI can't stand not having AC During the summer. That's the worst. Hope you get it fixed soon. You got a nice little assortment of books this week. Hope you enjoy all of them.

Books of Love
It's pretty miserable. (I did get a good mix of books. :) Have a good week!
DeleteWahoo..No Limits! I hope to read mine soon, the novella was good and got my warmed up! I hope you find an alternate air source..asthma and no a/c are not a good combo. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteYeah, a/c is a necessity with my asthma. *crosses fingers for good luck*
DeleteBea, how frustrating about your A/C! I hope you're able to find some window units that will work for you, at least. I'm not sure where you live, but going without A/C in summer is just miserable in a good bit of the hemisphere.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to rave about No Limits (b/c I've never read any Lori Foster.) Instead I'm going to ooh and ahh over The Graveyard Book. Cool!
I'm in New England so it could be worse. I could be in the South or one of the Southwestern states such as Arizona.
DeleteI'm much more excited about the Graveyard book than I am about the No Limits book. Receiving it was a nice surprise.
What bad luck to have such a choosy repairman. Hope it all gets sorted out soon. In the meantime, enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteI love the book Home Improvement!! Those anthologies is so much fun.. if you haven't read the other ones Harris has edited be sure to do so.

Sunday Post
Ugh that blows about the AC unit. I bet you want summer to leave already. :D
ReplyDeleteThe situation with your air conditioner really blows (pun intended). It just seems like it would have been so easy for them to tell you that they don't work on those sorts of units when you made the appointment - I hate having my time wasted like that. My last --- wait 2nd to last --- apartment didn't have central air and we just used one of those that you stick in the window and I have to say, it worked surprisingly well. Good luck :) And I'm glad you had a good staycation!
ReplyDeleteNo limits sounds good! hope you enjoy and have a great coming week.
ReplyDeleteKilling Ruby Rose sounds really good. I have been good with my self-imposed Netgalley ban, but I think I'm going to crack again. LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
What's wrong with wall units? I thought window units were more outdated. Anyway, hope someone will fix it for you, and that you are using a fan in the meantime, Bea! Totally understand how you felt on your staycation. I tend to go binge reading and NOT with review copies when it's summer :) hugs x
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the air thing all figure out soon. My son has asthma so I understand the issues that comes along with it overly hot and no filtering out allergens. Enjoy all the books.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks that the gut didn't even look at it! People are asses sometimes. I hope you get it sorted!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new reads Bea!
Thanx for visiting My Weekly Wrap-Up!

Oooh! Home Improvement! That reminds me I need to request it from the library. And one of these days I'll read a Kevin Hearne book, dammit! lol Sorry about the A/C woes. Been there! You can come to my house for a bit if you want. Bonus: I have plenty of books, too. :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness. I'm late. It's been crazy around the house and I don't even know what I've been doing! Looks like an amazing week and some great new reads. :) Hope you are having a great week this week.
