No safe word can protect the heart

Infamous erotica author and accomplished dominatrix Nora Sutherlin is doing something utterly out of character: hiding. While her longtime lover, Søren—whose fetishes, if exposed, would be his ruin—is under scrutiny pending a major promotion, Nora's lying low and away from temptation in the lap of luxury.

Her host, the wealthy and uninhibited Griffin Fiske, is thrilled to have Nora stay at his country estate, especially once he meets her traveling companion. Young, inexperienced and angelically beautiful, Michael has become Nora's protégé, and this summer with Griffin is going to be his training, where the hazing never ends.

But while her flesh is willing, Nora's mind is wandering. To thoughts of Søren, her master, under investigation by a journalist with an ax to grind. And to another man from Nora's past, whose hold on her is less bruising, but whose secrets are no less painful. It's a summer that will prove the old adage: love hurts.

Jax's thoughts:

Nora is the thread that holds this series together, but "The Angel" is Griffin and Michael's story. It's also my favorite book of the four. I've been trying to pinpoint what it is about this book that stands out so much. I love that the series in general pulls no punches in terms of taboos. This one has M/M, a big age gap between the main couple, throw in the BDSM....it's just one big book o'naughty. It's all gloriously hot fun. But there's more to it. The author tweeted something along the lines of it's not fun without the connection. Oh boy, is there a connection. Griffin and his Mick. *happy sigh* Never happier to see a couple find each other. Griffin is brash, often rash, and reckless. He's also got a deep dark protective streak, only revealed for the good of his near and dear. Michael - gifted, timid, an old soul - spends the summer with Nora and Griffin discovering that he is not as alone as he'd thought. It's an unusual courtship, but it's not your typical pairing I find them as endearing as they are hot together.

In "The Siren", you see Nora flirt with her publisher, brushing against the limits of propriety. Ok...let's try that again. Ignoring the limits of propriety in true Nora fashion. In "The Angel", we get to see a bit more of Soren, who somehow manages to clearly toe the line while giving one the impression of throwing the rule book out the window. He is the master of the non-answer. He and Nora each have their own brand of infuriating behavior. While I'm not sure I could handle either them in real life, they are brilliant characters. Add their friend and ever present third, Kingsley Edge and you will never be bored in your life.

  1. Fantastic review! I agree, Angel is my favorite of the series too. Nora, Soren, Kingsley - they are amazing, deep, well-rounded characters. Plus Griffin and Michael together are very sweet.

    1. I think it would be physically, emotionally and mentally impossible to be bored in their presence. Exhausting, but probably well worth it. lol
