"Senior Year Bites" by J.A. Campbell is a YA urban fantasy about a high school girl who gets bitten by a vampire. In this scene, some of her friends have just found out what she is. Click on the cover to go the book's goodreads page.
"What?" I asked after I saw the shocked expressions on Steph's and Ann's faces. The sweet scent o fear colored the night.
"Your eyes went completely black. It was freaky." Steh took a deep, calming breath.
Ann nodded, eyes wide. I heard her heart race.
"Huh." Mental note: don't do that around people. "Sorry." I looked down, shoving my hands into my pockets and clenching my jaw....
Ann avoided my gaze. That stung a little, but there wasn't anything I could do about her fear....
Ann tasted nervous to me. I wasn't especially hungry, but the scent of fear that trickled off of her was intoxicating.
I don't think I'd react well if suddenly my friends were afraid of me, whatever the reason. And can you imagine being a teenager AND a newly turned vampire? No thanks.
Thank you!!!

I don't know - being a vampire would have made my senior year pretty cool, I think.
ReplyDeleteOh geez nope wouldn't want that. I'd prob be a bad friend. I'd get over it quick I think but dang if someone's eyes went totally black on me all the sudden I might have a bit of a girly moment. lol
ReplyDeleteThat would freak me out too !
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree Bea, that would hurt my feelings. But sniffing their fear would definitely make me hungry...lols.
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of creepy...
ReplyDeleteYA really doesn't agree with me
