I'm participating in two Friday book memes, Book Beginnings On Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice.
Every Friday, share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
For the Friday 56, grab a book, any book. Turn to Page 56, or 56% on your ereader. If you have to improvise, that's okay. Find a snippet, short and sweet. Post it, and add the url to your post at the link here.
The quote is from page 56% in the hardcover ARC.

I received this for review last fall and still haven't gotten to it, but I'm planning on it. It's an Arthurian legend retelling from the POV of a young Nimue and illustrated by the amazing Frank Miller.
From her hiding place in the straw pile and through eyes filled with tears, Nimue thought Father Carden looked like a spirit of light.
He unwrapped the specimen. As usual, Merlin betrayed no emotion. The infant was probably a week or two old, withered and pale green from rot, its small arms curled, tiny fists balled. Its head was divided evenly into two faces, though each shared a misshapen eye just above the two noses.
I don't know if there is an emoji that accurately represents by face right now. I'm both mortified and intrigued.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was my reaction. Clearly this will not be a light and fluffy book.
DeleteOoh, I'm not sure how to react! Fascinating? Weird. Thanks for sharing, lol, and here's mine: “LITTLE SECRETS”
ReplyDeleteFascinating and weird are good descriptors.
DeleteThat 56 is so tragic!!!! Sounds like a good read though. I added you to the linky, I hope you still pop by! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletePS - Stay safe!
DeleteThanks Freda :) Have a good weekend and you stay safe too.
DeleteDid not know about this one, so popped over to see what it was about. Looks very good and I think I'll try to read it before the series starts. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI should get this read before the series starts. Glad it piqued your interest!
DeleteOh my... Sounds incredible.

DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSounds kind of creepy...but interesting.
Have a great day!
I agree, and thanks. You too!
DeleteI couldn't have read past the 56! Wow. :-( Stay healthy!
ReplyDeleteUnderstandable. We'll see how far I make it. Be safe!
DeleteYou have caught my attention with these excerpts. I have seen this book around but haven't really taken a very close look at it. I may need to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, you'll enjoy it if you read it.
DeleteI'm sure that the illustrations would be great in this book! Frank Miller is a great comic book artist :)
ReplyDeleteKonna @ The Reading Armchair
They're black and white but pretty awesome. Miller was part of the appeal for this book.
DeleteI didn't quite like this as much as I was hoping to, but I hope you love it. I am looking forward to what they do with the Netflix adaptation though.
ReplyDeleteThat's disappointing. I'm also curious about the adaptation.
DeleteSounds creepy and a bit darker then I would have thought at first. Definitely intrigued!
ReplyDeleteCreepy and dark seem like good descriptors; like you, I'm intrigued. *crosses fingers*
DeleteCursed does sound like it will be an interesting read. The 2nd excerpt you shared leaves quite an impression, doesn't it? LOL I hope you enjoy this one! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteIt really does. Have a good week!
DeleteInteresting teasers to say the least!
ReplyDeleteHeh, that they are.
DeleteThose excerpts definitely got my attention. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great week! :)
