Friday Memes: Not Broken: The Happily Ever After by Meka James

I'm participating in two Friday book memes, Book Beginnings On Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice.

Every Friday, share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

For the Friday 56, grab a book, any book. Turn to Page 56, or 56% on your ereader. If you have to improvise, that's okay. Find a snippet, short and sweet. Post it, and add the url to your post at the link here.

I won this book in the Romance for PR fundraising auction a few weeks ago. Now that, like many, I am home from work due to the pandemic, I have time to read it. I'll probably start it next week.

Calida's red Mercedes SUV turned the corner. Beads of sweat trickled down my back, and I rolled my shoulders hoping to release some of the tension. I knew in my heart of hearts this was a good plan, but at the same time, things could go horribly wrong.

The quote is from page 55  in the paperback.

"Do me a favor," she said as we walked toward the front gate.
"Sure thing."
"Don't talk about the sex. The idea of my brother is too...ew. I don't think I could handle it."

Please share your 56 or book beginning in the comments.

  4. The 56 made me laugh. I fully agree on not wanting to hear details about family members!

  5. Yeah, I don't want to hear about any of my siblings having sex either. Just no.
