I'm participating in two Friday book memes, Book Beginnings On Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader, and The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice.
Every Friday, share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
For the Friday 56, grab a book, any book. Turn to Page 56, or 56% on your ereader. If you have to improvise, that's okay. Find a snippet, short and sweet. Post it, and add the url to your post at the link here.
This is the beginning of the introduction, written by Chuck Wendig.

I've been following Ms. Gilman's opinions on Facebook, Twitter, and Patreon for some time now. While we don't always agree, she's always articulate, witty, and has solid research and sources backing her up. When she put this book out, I couldn't resist. I think I'll be dipping into it this weekend.

It is often said that the Internet was a DARPA project, made for military research and education. Blah blah bah, something-something Al Gore. Sharing of data, a marriage of systems, yadda yadda yadda.
I haven't heard of this book before but I could use a funny book. LADY COP MAKES TROUBLE
ReplyDeleteGilman can be very funny, in a dry way, so I have high hopes for the book.
DeleteThis book looks interesting...and now I am adding it to my very long list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and here's mine: “THE MISSING SISTER”
Ooo, I hope you enjoy it! If you like her writing, she has an extensive fiction backlist.

ReplyDeleteI do too, actually.

DeleteOh this looks good! That quote hit home for me as we're in that space with my son and he's deciding what he believes, what facade he wants to go and what he's not ready to stop believing in.
ReplyDeleteIt hit home for me and I'm an adult. Best of luck to your son figuring all this out.
DeleteThanks for sharing this new-to-me book and author.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
DeleteSounds interesting. I haven't heard of this one before.
ReplyDeleteIt's a recent release but the author has been publishing for years.
DeleteI am not familiar with Laura Anne Gilman but this does sound like an entertaining and thought provoking read. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteShe's been writing speculative fiction for years. I think this is her first published non-fiction.
DeleteMy kind of read. Thanks for sharing.
