February's Balancing the Books with Bea

Inspired by Fantasy Is More Fun and The Geeky Blogger's Book Blog, I decided to start tracking my book expenses this year. I'll do a wrap up post at the end of each month.

I've given myself $10 real money each month to spend on books, whether for myself, as gifts, or blog giveaways. "Real money" being cash from my bank account as opposed to gift cards and store credits. I am counting money spent to ship giveaways and Paperbackswap.com books. Books from my personal shelves, borrowed from the library or a friend, and books received for review do not count against my purchases.

FEBRUARY STARTING FUNDS

Cash - $109.97
Amazon Gift Cards -$94.08
Other Gift Cards - $55
Amazon Promotional Credit - $0
Audible Credit - $10
Paperbackswap.com Credits - 18

For the month I spent $13 and 1 Paperbackswap.com credits for 5 books plus I got 20 for review, 11 freebies and 3 as gifts. I also read 12 of my own books. I did go slightly over my cash goal for the month again :( but I'm still in good shape overall.

  2. This is such a smart idea to do. I don't spend that much money on books. I tend to stalk the library too often lol, but when there is a book I can't wait for then I will purchase it. Usually I try to keep it around 30-50 dollars per month.

    1. I stalk the library a fair bit too most months. I have, as you saw, a very tight budget so the library, review books and kindle freebies are important.

  4. You did really well staying on budget this month. I've said it before, but I would be too scared to attempt this. Good luck in March :)

  5. Thanks Reanna. It took me months to work up the nerve to do this.

  6. I'm seriously impressed at how many books you gathered for only $13! I have to just completely cut myself off otherwise I give in to temptation, haha, I just don't even look at stores for a month or two but then inevitably go on a binge at some point >.> Hopefully with a giftcard though!
