I was intrigued by the title so I requested this book, hoping for a humorous story for a class of preschoolers. The story is humorous, with funny happenings such as egg-laying chickens in a refrigerator and a tree growing in the middle of the kitchen. We see some of the ingredients for french toast coming straight from the source, such as the milk, eggs, and syrup. The story is cute and funny while also teaching some simple lessons about food sources.
The art was not so appealing. The cow and the cat look deformed, though I don't think that was on purpose. The colors are calming and the scenes depicted are funny, but the style just didn't work for me. Some kids will enjoy it, some won't. I do think most will enjoy the story.
"The Cow in Patrick O'Shanahan's Kitchen" is silly and funny with some very basic earth science underpinning the humor. The artwork is simplistic and sometimes just odd but it complements the text. I could see myself reading this to a class of preschoolers.
I'm always looking for new kids' books and I like the sounds of this one. It's too bad the artwork is so strange but that seems to be kind of an odd trend right now. Thanks for sharing!
