Sunday Book Share #81

I'm participating in The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer; Showcase Sunday hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea; Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews, and Library Loot co-hosted by The Captive Reader and Silly Little Mischief that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. All of these memes give book bloggers the chance to share print and digital books they've received, and posts and events at their blogs.

Apparently, I am getting old. :( The conference last weekend and the late nights and all the driving time left me wiped all week and I crashed early most nights during the week. I didn't even get much reading done! O_o Of course, the asthma flare is still lingering; it's now entered the sixth week. :( I see the doctor again on Tuesday, in between physical therapy and work.

The Week In Review

Odd, interesting, or funny search phrases leading to the blog: Cats dominated my search terms last week: "how to catch a cat", "cat book editor" :D "cat addict", and "cat i want you to be happy".  Also, "model of asthma lungs" made a reappearance.

So last Friday I drove up to New York state to meet up with CarolKat and attend the 5th Annual Create Something Magical Conference (Liberty States Fiction Writers). We drove down to New Jersey Saturday morning (FYI, Yahoo Maps sucks donkey balls) and arrived in time for lunch and the keynote address by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I was surprised and pleased to see a copy of her YA book "infamous" on my chair, every lunch attendee got one. One of my tablemates didn't want hers so I ended up with two and got them both signed at the book fair that afternoon. I gave one away earlier this week and the other is on my bookshelf. Conference attendees also received a bag with 4 books inside; CarolKat and I got two that were the same and two that were different.

My books (I threw infamous into the pile too) -

The Other Woman by Hank Phillippi Ryan - she's a local tv reporter so it was pretty exciting to get one of her books

At the book signing I chatted in line with some authors including L.G. O'Connor and Hilda Weisburg and picked up another tote bag. The conference included lunch and a pizza dinner followed by an 80s themed dance party. CarolKat got up danced while I just boogied in my chair. :D

We arrived in time for three reader track panels. There was a writers track and a readers track; CarolKat and I signed up for the readers track. I really enjoyed the panel discussing tropes, what they are and why they are appealing. There was a panel where we could play romance cover bingo and that was a hoot, so much fun! I even won a signed Laura Kaye tote bag. :) CarolKat and I had a blast and I'm so glad we went.

Swag from the conference.

It was a good time and the conference was well organized other than not enough time between panels. CarolKat and I are talking about going again next year.

  1. Wow between the wins and the conference you sure had a nice haul and I see some of your favorite authors in those piles. Anytime I travel it just knocks me out, hope the flair up settles down and you feel more like yourself soon.

  2. Yeah travel can be tough even when it's fun. :) The conference sounds like a lot of fun and nice swag too. Liked your review of Mark of the Dragonfly too, I've been wondering about one, didn't realize it was MG but still sounds good and a good choice for young readers.

  4. Sometimes the driving can make us so tired though… I'm definitely with you and usually wiped out by the end of the week. I'd love to attend a conference though.
"How to catch a cat' - simple, put a box up of any description, doesn't even need to fit the cat :)
Have a great week and Happy Reading.

  8. Looks like you had a great week with the conference and all the new books you got! I am the type of person who need around 10 hours of sleep a night and if I don't get that for a few days I feel tired really fast, so I can understand what you mean. I hope your astma flare is over soon, it sounds nasty :(.
