Book Blurb:
There are no monsters, only good guys and bad guys. That’s the creed by which Detective Inspector Faith Connolly has always lived.
When Faith discovers she has a time bomb counting down in her head, she has one goal: to solve the murder case she’s working on and gain closure. Her investigation brings her in contact with Ash Delacourt, who is definitely one of the bad guys, albeit a stunningly gorgeous one.
As payment for a debt, Asmodai, AKA Ash Delacourt, finds himself working with the Order of the Shadow Accords. He’s the demon representative on the newly formed committee for the integration of mankind and well…everything else. It’s a chance to be near his daughter, make a new start, and—once he’s met the delectable Detective Connolly—maybe have a little fun.
But as Faith’s investigation deepens, her beliefs are eroded and for the first time, she is falling in love—with one of the bad guys. How can she ever let Ash close when her time is running out…?

Jax's Thoughts:
This has been the month of me picking up books mid-series! Lucky for me, Nina Croft writes well enough to keep noobs like me from getting lost! (All the while teasing me enough that I'll be going back for the others.)
Faith...is aptly named. She has great faith in her abilities, in the worthiness of the work she does and in who she works for. That steadfast belief is tested to the limits, and in some cases is proven to be wrong. Her whole life is turned on it's head, from her health to her understanding of what is real. There's one thing that she can hold on to - her instincts and sense of what's right. Despite appearances - Ash is decidedly right for her. While facing his own epiphanies and crises, Ash still the best one to help Faith find her path. She gives him a reason to step up his game, and have faith in someone besides himself.
I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next, and to going back to fill in the details of the couples' pasts.

Book Blurb:
Captain Tannis of the starship El Cazador is part snake, part human, and—according to some—all bitch. She is one job away from her lifelong goal—to achieve the immortality she craves. The assignment: protecting the most powerful man in the Universe.
After five hundred years, Callum Meridian, founding member of the Collective, is bored out of his mind. Until he realizes he’s physically changing—into what, he isn’t sure. Callum is determined to discover the truth, but his own people will stop at nothing to prevent it from coming out.
With a coup brewing and the crew of El Cazador close to tossing him off the ship, Callum turns to Tannis. Sparks fly as they work together to make it out alive. But can Callum really trust the one woman hell bent on using him? Defying death has never been more dangerous, more sexy, or more fun.

Jax's Thoughts:
Another series I think worth delving into more. I do enjoy a good space epic. The world building is really very solid in this one. I'm very curious where things head from here! And again, I'm starting three books in! I will say, that as much as I enjoyed the story of Callum and Tannis, I'm far more intrigued by the universe Croft has created in this book. There are a great many interesting mysteries to be uncovered as Tannis' friends and crew take in Callum. The answers found lead, of course, to new questions that I hope are addressed in future books.
I'll have to go find out who the previous books feature, but the entire crew is really entertaining. I don't think Tannis and Callum's courtship would be nearly as funny without Rico. I don't want you to get the wrong idea, this book really is about the two of them. It's just that the way it's told gives you much more than just their story. It's very well done. I highly recommend it.

About Nina:

Nina Croft grew up in the north of England. After training as an accountant, she spent four years working as a volunteer in Zambia which left her with a love of the sun and a dislike of 9-5 work. She then spent a number of years mixing travel (whenever possible) with work (whenever necessary) but has now settled down to a life of writing and picking almonds on a remote farm in the mountains of southern Spain.
Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction.
