April Balancing the Books

Inspired by the now defunct Fantasy Is More Fun and by The Geeky Blogger's Book Blog, I decided a few years ago to track my book expenses. I'll do a wrap up post at the end of each month.

I've given myself $40 real money each month to spend on books for myself and my classroom, $30 a month for books that are gifts, and $10 a month for blog giveaways. "Real money" being cash from my bank account as opposed to gift cards and store credits. Books that I borrowed from the library or a friend, and books received for review do not count against my purchases though I'll track them here as books acquired. Personal funds not spent will be added to the next month and any overages will be deducted from the next month; gift and blog cash however will reset each month.

I went slightly over budget in my personal cash so I'll deduct a dollar from May's budget. I don't think I'll run out of reading material anytime soon. :D

  3. What a neat way to keep track of all your book buying expenditures. I had a plan to not buy any books this year unless I got the unread ones I already own down into single figures. It's almost working!

  4. I am loving the idea of having a budget for the month for books, I usually budget everything else but maybe I can throw in a few dollars to get a book or two a month especially with all the awesome releases coming out.

    1. Might be worth a try. :) Most of the books I bought in April were on sale so that stretched my budget. It took some trial and error to determine what I could realistically afford but I'm glad I did it.
