Sunday Book Share #141 Back Home and Tired

http://www.talksupeblog.com/search/label/Bought%20Borrowed%20and%20Bagged

I'm participating in The Sunday Post, hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer; Showcase Sunday hosted by Books, Biscuits and Tea; Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Tynga's Reviews; and Bought Borrowed and Bagged, hosted by TalkSupe. All of these memes are about sharing the print and digital books received and/or posts and events on the blog.

It has been a crazy few weeks. My dad, who'd been ailing, died May 4th so I was out of town from the 4th til the morning of the 12th. And we're not even done. My dad was a retired military officer who wanted to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. But, they have an insane backlog and it will be 4-6 months before they can bury him. I let loose with a few swear words, let me tell you. Like this isn't hard enough?! Now he's in cold storage, waiting his turn.

I have a LOT of catching up to do, reading review books, writing reviews, and of course non-blog stuff. I ditched a few planned posts but most I've rescheduled. You'll see a lot of reviews, hopefully, over the next few weeks as I get them written and then posted. As you can imagine, I didn't succeed, didn't even come close, in the mini Blog Ahead challenge. But, the past few weeks have emphasized how important it is to have that buffer so once I'm caught up, I'll try to get ahead.

On a happier note, thank you to all of you for your kind words and support the past few weeks, it's meant a lot. <3

I got in a LOT of books over the past two weeks. A whole bunch of print books arrived while I was out of town, only 2 of which were expected; some tour books came in, a library book, and way too many review books. I requested a bunch because that's what I do when I'm stressed, I acquire books; in this instance, the majority are from NetGalley and Edelweiss, with a few purchases or freebies.

Purchased

Murder by Magic: Twenty Tales of Crime and the Supernatural, ed. by Rosemary Edghill

Library

Seven Nights to Forever by Evangeline Collins

Amazon Lending Library

The Threshing Circle by Neil Grimmett

Did you add any books to your shelves or e-readers last week? Leave a link to your Sunday Post so I can visit you during the week.

Thanks for visiting and happy reading! :)

  6. So sorry to hear that your father passed on Bea. And omg that is such a long wait for the burial, that sounds v stressful to me, I hope you are ok with the idea of having to wait so long. Hugs.
I binge buy/grab books when stressed too but we could be doing worse! I think The Guest Cottage sounds good.
Fingers crossed that books work their magic and help lift you a bit.

  8. So sorry to hear about your father and the long wait for the burial! My father died over 10 years ago, but I do remember that we wanted to get him to the grave as soon as possible. You are a trooper for wanting to make your father's wishes come true even when it is difficult for you :)

Take care - hopefully books manage to take your mind away from all the grief for a while.

  15. Oh gosh that's horrible! That backlog is insane! I hope you can relax a little this week and do you.

  16. The delay is hard and it's true that they are making it harder on you, but think of it as your final gift to your father to get you through.
So many books, and yes I do this when stressed (or bored) too. I don't do Edelweiss because I find their site too dang confusing so I stick to Netgalley and enter giveaways all over the place. Hope your reading and blogging make you feel better.

  17. It's wonderful you are following your father's wishes but not so great having to wait so long.
The blogging ahead thing works and it doesn't. I blog ahead and then get lazy and have to catch up the next time. LOL

  18. Sympathy and hugs to you, my friend; I know this has been a hard few weeks for you, and having to wait so long for burial must only make it harder. Don't stress about the blog; take the time you need to take care of yourself.

I know just what you mean about acquiring books when you're stressed; I do it too. But that's OK - books are good for you! Some people turn to really unhealthy things when they're stressed. But books offer escape and relaxation without regrets.

  20. You've been on my mind though I absolutely failed at commenting. I can't imagine dealing with the Arlington on top of everything else. I can imagine a few swear words were definitely in order! Now go relax and take care of yourself. It sounds like you definitely deserve it! Hope this week is much much better and much less stressful.

  21. Oh my! I didn't realize the government was that behind in burying. That's terrible. I would have done the same as you. I'm sorry to hear that.

And I see you reviewed Fury as well! I'm going to check out the review now. :) Have a great week and hope you get some rest.

  22. Oh, damn ... that's terrible about your dad. I guess the good thing is that he'll get to eventually get to be laid to rest where he wanted to. Even if it takes awhile. :(
