I am a huge fan of ghost stories. I have been reading ghost stories since I was a kid. I have gone on a few ghost hunts, lived in a couple of haunted houses and I love to watch Ghost Adventures on TV (ok and the fact that Zak is really cute has nothing to do with that obsession). When this book came across my email for review, I was more than happy to grab it.
First thing I am going to say, do not do what I did unless you really like to get freaked out. I crawled in bed with my Kindle (I love reading ebooks in the dark) and brought this up. The first couple of pages of each section are the history of the place featured in that section. The first haunted place is Willoughby Coal and Garden Center in Willoughby, Ohio. I’ll admit some of the history was a tad dry but then they hit the personal experiences. After one experience, I started getting the” back of the neck tingles”. By the time they got to the ghost dog, I had the whole body heebie jeebies and had to turn the lights on. I am such a wimp sometimes.
Most of the places mentioned in the book were not new to me. Many had been mentioned on shows I have watched in the past. I loved the personal experiences of the people interviewed. It is not just the author and her fellow ghost hunter that give personal experiences. They have other people from different groups included in the stories. Many of these names and stories were familiar to me because I watch almost every ghost special offered up on cable during October. That being said, I still got chills and goose bumps from the descriptions of the paranormal happenings.
What I liked most about this book is that at the end of each section, is a list. The places are open to the public for tours, there are contact numbers, emails or websites to visit. There is also a list of local hotels and contact numbers so you can book your hotel stay. I am chomping at the bit to go to a few of these places but I think I will forgo a trip to Bobby Mackey’s. This place is way to demonic for me and if the Ghost Adventures crew has said they will never go back, then I think I will stay away too.
If you are a ghost junky like I am, you will LOVE this book and I am up for a road trip if anybody wants to visit a few of these places.
Oh yeah. I was reading about this on another blog. I would have freaked myself out too! This is one of those only when someone else is staying the night kind of reads for me. I am such a wuss. lol
