Blurb from goodreads:

"One, two, three, four, five. My jar's like a light bulb that's just come alive." The lilting verses in this concept book chronicle a girl's capture and release of ten fireflies. Kid-readers will count up and down along with the song-like text. Interesting information about fireflies is included in the book's final spread, adding a touch of accessible nonfiction to this charming not-just-for-bedtime offering.

Bea's Thoughts:

The cover and title for this book jumped up and said, "Read me, read me!" So I did. :)

The color palette used in this book is lovely and suits the story perfectly. Although the book doesn't say what the art process was, it looks like a mix of  paint and tissue collage paper. Regardless of the media, the artwork is enjoyable to look at and adds to the story. The details are charming and you feel as if you are right there.

A little girl, whose name we aren't told, is excited when her daddy says, "It's a firefly night!" She runs outside, looking happy, and catches fireflies in a mason jar. But, while she appreciates their loveliness, she understands they aren't for keeping and releases them while counting. The little girl's delight and excitement in catching, releasing, and watching fireflies shine through in both the words and the illustrations. The language is lovely with simple rhyming that catches the reader's attention -

Flickering quicker,
they sparkle and shine.
I love catching fireflies,
but they are not mine.

"It's  Firefly Night" is a delightful, joy-filled story that children and adults will enjoy reading day after day.
