Blog Tour: Vampires in Alaska - A Guest Post by Nikki Jefford & A Giveaway

Hello and welcome to my stop on the tour for the Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter books. They're set in Alaska and I immediately fell in love with the idea of Alaskan vampires; it's a fantastically horrifying concept. I had to be part of the tour.
 

Nikki Jefford is a third generation Alaskan who found paradise in the not-so-tropical San Juan Islands (Wash.) where she is once more neighbors with Canada in a town without a single traffic light. She loves fictional bad boys and heroines who kick butt.

Winter Wonderland: Why I Set Aurora Sky in Alaska

I was born and raised in Alaska. Like Aurora, I wanted to get the heck off that iceberg all my life. In Anchorage, I was an entertainment reporter, writing historical romance at night dreaming of being a published author one day. Whenever anyone heard that I wrote they almost always said, “You should write something that takes place in Alaska.”

Um, boring! I grew up there. And hello? Historical romance! England!

It wasn’t until a couple years after I left the state (end of 2008) that I felt ready to use the Far North for a setting. Despite my distaste for the cold and dark, I’ve always appreciated the natural beauty and wildness of Alaska.

For vampires it made total sense. Cold, dark – it’s like Florida for seniors. (Snicker, giggle. Nice analogy ~ Bea)

Aurora Sky puts a sci-fi twist to what it means to be a vampire. Alaska can seem pretty otherworldly especially when the northern lights are out dancing in the night sky. Those elements lent themselves beautifully to the series and now I get a chance share a part of my home with readers. Better yet, with vampires!
