Blurb from goodreads:

The Fear Is Terrifying

When police rescue five-year-old Jenna Thompson from the dark closet where she's been held captive for days, they tell her she's a lucky girl. Compared to the rest of her family, it's true. But even with their killer dead of an overdose, Jenna is still trying to find peace twenty-five years later.

But The Truth

On leave from her forensic artist job, Jenna returns to Nashville, the city where she lost so much. Instead of closure, she finds a new horror. Detective Rick Morgan needs Jenna's expertise in identifying the skeletal remains of a young child. The case jogs hazy half-buried memories--and a nagging dread that Jenna's ordeal hasn't ended.

Is Even Worse

Now other women are dying. And as the links between these brutal killings and Jenna's past becomes clear, she knows this time, a madman will leave no survivors. . .

Bea's Thoughts:

I read the first book last fall and enjoyed it so I requested this as soon as I saw it was available. We get to revisit some of the characters from the first books, learn more about two of the Morgans, and get a mystery that kept me guessing though there was a major coincidence that I had trouble swallowing. The romance is light, even lighter than in the first one, the book is more mystery with a romance sub-plot. It didn't grab me as much as book one, "Cover Your Eyes" did but I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to book three, "I'll Never Let You Go", due out in October.

Bea's Thoughts:

I won book four in this series so and it was recommended by some bloggers that I read the preceding books so I requested them from my library. This book, I'm sorry to say, didn't wow me. The backstory was lacking, especially the story of how Josie and Shane met and why he left her and why it's such a problem with his brothers that Shane and Josie are married. I had a lot of questions left unanswered, and add in the fact that Shane is a 4 star alphahole, and I was underwhelmed. But I like the basic premise and I did win book four, so I'll read book two, which I've already picked up from the library.

Blurb from goodreads:

New York Times best selling author Cheyenne McCray returns to steamy romantic suspense with a high-octane thriller about a woman running from a Mexican cartel and the man determined to protect her.

Danger...
Tori Cox, a talented and sought after musician, heads back to her roots in a small southwest town in Arizona as she flees an abusive relationship. When she arrives in Bisbee, she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time—and witnesses the execution of a Federal agent by none other than the son of El Demonio, the head of the Jimenez Cartel. Tori and everyone she loves is now in danger as the cartel comes after her before she can testify.

Desire...
Landon Walker, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, rescues Tori when he sees the beautiful woman running from members of one of the most ruthless cartels in the world. He sets out to protect her, but soon protecting her isn’t enough. The fire between them makes him want her in a way that he’s never wanted another woman, despite his wounded heart.

Death...
Diego Montego Jimenez will do everything in his power to kill the young American woman who threatens his business and family. No one lives to testify against the Jimenez Cartel. Landon isn’t about to let the cartel get hold of Tori. He’ll go to the ends of the earth and back to protect her—and show her he’s never letting her go.

**No Mercy, Book 2 in the "Lawmen" series, due out January 2015!

Bea's Thoughts:

This was my first book by McCray and I enjoyed it. I've been trying to branch out and try new romantic suspense authors and McCray is a keeper. The suspense was strong, the romance hot and fast but believably so, and while there was some predictability, there were also some good twists and turns. The Arizona setting was a bonus too. Now to get my hands on book two. :)

  1. I LOVE Zanetti's series but book one was my least favorite. I had a real hard time with the hero. But glad I went on to the rest of the series because it was great. Heads up--you've got a name blip in that review.

  3. I have Be Afraid though I'd kind of forgotten about it. I'm glad to know you enjoyed it though not quite as much as the first one. The others are new to me and the McCray especially looks interesting.
