Blurb from goodreads:

The author of the critically acclaimed mysteries Cajun Nights and Blood on the Bayou once again returns to the irresistible world of New Orleans, with its rich ambiance of desire and dark drama, to tell a story of hidden secrets and murder. Dr. Kit Franklyn is sexy, smart, and a top criminal psychologist. She's also an amateur horticulturist, but when she decides to put a new rose trellis in her garden, she doesn't count on her dog Lucky discovering a human jawbone. Kit immediately calls her partner and friend, Chief Medical Examiner Andy Broussard, and his forensic skills are put to the test as he and his team slowly exhume the twenty-five-year-old skeleton of a young woman who clearly did not die a natural death. But exactly when was she murdered, and why? And, most important, who killed her? The trail leads Broussard and Kit back in time to a mysterious evening among friends at medical school over two decades before and a ruthless killer who continues to strike again and again in a pattern that begins to show a chilling logic.

Steph's Thoughts:

By now it should be no secret that I have become a fan of these books. I had just found and ordered a hardcover copy of this book from its original published run, when I got an email from Bea saying she had accepted the next three books in this series on my behalf. I was overjoyed. I know you are wondering why I chose to review this one first, when it is actually number 3. I follow Don Donaldson on Facebook. He was discussing how very different one of the books is and I asked him which order did he actually prefer me to read them in. (Yes, I had a total fan-girl moment when he answered my question)

"No Mardi Gras for the Dead" really freaked me out. Imagine doing some landscaping work in the yard of your new house and finding a BODY? Poor Kit, her discovery really makes me question my desire to add on to my garden next year. I am still amazed at the amount of legwork that these two needed to do when it came to getting information. Kit had to go to the courthouse and dig through volumes of books to find the chain of ownership on her house. She has to make several phone calls to find out when the toothpaste found in the grave was made.

This book was full of lots of twists and turns and I totally guessed the “Who did it?” wrong. I love it when I don’t see the ending coming. So yes, "No Mardi Gras for the Dead" was another winner for me.

  1. I read a few of these books when they came out originally and read another one recently and really enjoyed them. I'll have to look for this one. It's crazy how much time doing anything took pre-internet days!
