Blurb from Amazon:

While “helping” his mother with holiday housecleaning, a boy keeps a watchful eye on the progress of a winter storm. He’s hoping for a big snow. A really big snow. Inside, he is underfoot, turning sheet-changing and tub-scrubbing into imaginary whiteouts. Outside, flakes are flying. But over the course of a long day (for Mom) the clouds seem slow on delivering a serious snowfall. Then comes a dreamy naptime adventure, marking just the beginning of high hopes coming true in this irresistible seasonal story.

Bea's Thoughts:

"Big Snow" is a delightful story about a young boy's excitement about impending snow. David is so excited he can hardly contain himself. He tries to help his mother prepare for guests but he keeps geting distracted: the white bed sheets remind him of snow so off he goes to look for snow; the baking flour reminds him of snow so off he goes to look for snow, etc.

The gentle repetition of phrases and simple vocabulary will encourage young readers and the combination of the language and the pale, neutral toned illustrations will delight both children and adult. The joy and excitement come through clearly and are enough to make even a winter grinch like me anticipate the first snow.

  1. I love the cover, and I remember the wonder of big snow as a kid and the endless possibilities it brought.
